I'm sure this is a dumb question... This has happened to me twice in different missions...

I will have a couple Migs chasing me - Entering it's trigger zone, I call for fighter support ... When Awacs reports 50 hot, I try to head towards the direction of the F-15's..

The F-15s engage (sometimes missing ... lol) and depending how close the Migs are, I will engage them as well..

Then I get hit with a stray Aim-120 - (I had labels on), I see a missile streak by my side and see the blue label, then it strikes my right wing..

So I suppose, before the Mig went down, one of the F-15's must have shot off an extra Aim-120 - and picks up my radar signature and starts heading towards me once the Mig is disintegrated.. pretty funny actually ..

Could this happen IRL ? I wished we had more advanced IFF lol :pilotfly:

By all means I do not want to be invisible, I just never saw this modeled in any other sim (and we know this isnt any other sim either lol ), It's actually pretty nice and adds into the immersion I suppose

Yes it can definitely happen in real life, and in real life pilots wouldn't normally fire AIM-120s at enemies that are in close proximity to friendlies, or who will soon be in close proximity to the friendlies.

If the AMRAAM loses its lock on its target, it will try to re-acquire. However it doesn't have any magic knowledge of what's friendly or not, so if you're anywhere near where it thinks its target might now be, it'll happy lock on to you instead.

IMO an A-10 shouldn't be getting involved in a dogfight if there's friendly fighters nearby. You'll just be making things harder for the jet jockies. In the sim it doesn't really matter much, aside from the increased risk of getting tagged by friendly missiles.

I'm not sure if RL AMRAAMs do any IFF stuff at all. Hopefully we'll find out shortly..!

Yups, that's one reason it might be a good idea to carry two AIM-7's in your loadout. Less risk of killing would-be heroes. :P

But as you said: the best solution to the problem is for the A-10 to just not try to do a fighter's job and thus allow the Eagles to use their most effective weapon - the Slammer.

Good to know ..

It's one of those things where as you've completed 70% of your mission, then here come the migs.. you call for fighter support, and by the time the Migs are visible, they are about 7nm from ya.. and the fighters are no where to be found! (after being called 6 minutes prior lol )

Im actually satisfied that ED modeled this. It adds even more realism. Thanks for the response, its quite interesting.

Just be happy that DCS doesn't use the FC 1.12 slammers. Those things would make 80 degree turns just to kill you if they lost lock...

If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.

Trust me when I say you would never want to use an AIM-7 around F-15s in some sort of misguided understanding that they'll be able to tell it that they're not valid targets. :)
