I was remembering a method used in Falcon 4, whereby if the Lat-Long coordinates of the target were known before the mission, (or in our case, the coordinates are given to us by JTAC) you could enter them as attack waypoints and then drop the munitions on the coordinates.

This could be done without the Litening pod, if damaged, or you could do it in bad weather at night!:music_whistling:

The targets coordinates must be accurate.

So its a case of entering the coordinates as flightplan waypoints. Using either UFC and MFCD or the CDU;-

Usind UFC as an example;-

from WP page:

osb 7, WP select

osb 10 LL (or UTM) coordinates selected as reference

osb 9 ?wp number

osb 16 enter LL or UTM

osb7 name the target waypoint

Repeat this for as many targets as you have identified ( or have munitions for)

Then;

AAP set steerpoint dial from flight plan to mission

Use the UFC steer rocker or, with the HUD as SOI, DMS UP to cycle thru the waypoints until you see the unique name you gave your target.

Locate the target waypoint symbol on the TAD and use steering cues on HUD to prosecute your attack.

Any Dumb bombs can be used if you prefer and from low level:smilewink:

Its something I did in Falcon and I believe it works here also.

Happy Bombing:)

Yep- and of course make the waypoint the SPI

Nice post Accipiter, thanks!

WarriorX has also made a tutorial for this, and in PDF format for those who want to refer to it offline:

Excellent! This is really Top Drawer stuff!

Also with the coords input, the ability to rapidly bomb multiple targets (without any visual reference) is an enlightening experience. Almost makes the "Dumb" bomb a GBU. If you carry out a BDA after your attack, using your Litening, the results are interesting!

Its also worth noting you will have to use a suitable coordinate precision of either 10m or 1m accuracy or you could drop it 99m or more meters away, so realistically your looking at 10 or 12 digits long in addition to the UTM zone/quadrangle designator.

Absolutely!

This is the drawback. Also, the accuracy of the mission map coordinates is not enough, like it appeared to be in Falcon!

I have noticed if you rely upon the UTM and use the LL from that, the accuracy is not sufficient!

These videos are very illustrative of how to achieve that precision.

You can bomb very accurately using pre-briefed L/L coordinates but there are a couple of traps for the unwary. You can obtain the coordinates by mousing over the target location in the Mission Editor but the output format is degrees/minutes/seconds. The Hog's CDU accepts inputs in degrees/minutes, NOT degrees/minutes/seconds (DMS) so you need to convert the seconds value in the ME output (the " value) into a fraction of a minute to get a coordinate that will produce the accurate location when you fly the mission. You can obviously also get these coordinates -- depending on whether or not the target is shown -- in the F10 mission map.

Once you have these L/L coordinates, you input them into the CDU via Function/Waypoint, starting by advancing the WP value in the CDU screen or CDU repeater MFD screen, then entering a name for the object at the waypoint (say, "Bridge"), make sure you have L/L selected as the input mode, then you enter the coordinates in the correct fields, using the CDU keypad or the UFC. Make sure you enter your longitude coordinate with a zero first; Lat coords are 7 digits, Long coords are 8 digits.

Once you have entered these waypoints and -- importantly -- named them, you will not see them in your flightplan. You need to turn your navigation mode rotary knob under the CDU from "Flightplan" to "Mission" and you can then cycle through them as you would flightplan WPs in FP mode.

I know this might seem complicated but it's easy after a little practice and important for realistic operation of any air-vs-ground platform.

Good stuff man, there is so much to learn with the CDU

Looking forward to flying with you in the 1st (I go by Rabbit over there). I'd still love to test some of those missions out that you've got cooking:music_whistling: I spend about half of my time in DCS in the editor, so I've got at least a few questions for ya:)
