Few tad questions

My buddy and I have been having a frustrating time playing the on station mp mission. Mainly because we can't find sam sites using the tgp, but my question is regarding the TAD, and I could not find the answers in the manual.

1). Is ther a way to quickly move the TGP from one side of the plane to the other using the tad cursor? For example, can you move the tad cursor to the other side of the plane, make a random spot on the map the spi, and then move the tgp to the spi? I was somehow able to do this once but have not been a le to recreate it. I put the tad cursor in the general area of where I thought a sam site was, made it my spi (my wedding cake moved over to my tad cursor) and then broadcasted it to my buddy...

2). What do the green "x's" on the tad mean? They weren't mentioned in the manual and were not shown in the labeled illustrations.

Thanks

The only way I could think to quickly move the TGP would be to set an SPI with the TAD, and slew the TGP to the SPI. It is a real simple process, and there are two ways to do this.

1. Make the TAD SPI by selecting the TAD as your SOI (which it should already be if you are moving the cursor) and then press TMS up long to make that TAD cursor the SPI. Then you would slew the TGP to the SPI with China Hat Forward Long.

2. Slew the TAD cursor to the location you would like, and press TMS right short to make a mark point. Change the CDU to steerpoint selector knob thingy to Mark instead of flightplan. Find the mark you just made by cycling through as if they were waypoints on your flight plan, and make that mark point the SPI by again TMS Up Long. Then slew the TGP to the SPI again with China Hat Forward Long.

2). What do the green "x's" on the tad mean? They weren't mentioned in the manual and were not shown in the labeled illustrations.

I believe those are Friendly ground forces.

Are you sure method 1 works? I didnt think u could make a random position SPI? I thought you actually had to hook something.

You may be right. I thought I had done it before. It has been a while since I have been in game though.

I wanted to add onto my post, as far as the TAD goes, I use the 2nd method anyway because it is much easier to manage multiple targets with mark points.

Method one is how I thought I was able to do it last night as well, but I couldn't recreate it. I was probablybutton mashing and got lucky.

It just seems like there should be a way to slew the tgd quickly from out in front of you 20 miles to off to your 5 20 miles when you get lit up by radar

Aside from visually finding a threat and boresighting (bringing the TGP back to center on the hud) then adjusting the TGP to the enemy location, the only way to quickly save a target area is with a mark point, which is simple and quick. You might have a hard time accurately placing that mark near the enemy location, but its better than trying to go head first into fire just to get your TGP setup.

I spend a fair amount of effort while flying attempting to correlate the world I see outside of the glass with the moving map (actually not moving, I use the EXP modes a lot). That way I can do exactly what your describing, and not put the jet in harms way just to get the pod on target,

The steps I use;

On UFC: hit "FUNC" than "8" (puts the CDU in Mark mode)

Set TAD as SOI (Coolie hat left long [unless tad is on right MFCD])

Create mark point: (TMS right short over area of interest [i've always had to use a long press, but this is according to the manual])

Set HUD as SOI (Coolie hat up, short)

Cycle mark points (DMS up/down)

Slave pod to Mark point (China hat aft long)

Good luck finding targets! This method is more challenging than lining up the TGP using the HUD, but a lot less risky

System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
