BOPrey Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 NP CD contains the season pack. I think you will have to put the LockOn Gold CD into the CDROM for it to play, and that's after getting the code from SF.
HockeyCoach Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Alright now that the FC thing is cleared up, how about we discuss a little more about the Starforce Protection in the gold version? For those new people coming into this sim and buying the gold version and did not visit the forums, how are they suppose to know they had to contact SF to get it to work? I think a lot of people are going to return this product if they saw “insert valid CD.” And SF support is going to be overwhelmed by the number of e-mails they are going to get. Btw…with this gold version, how do they expect to keep it out of pirate’s reach? Couldn’t anyone ask for a code, I don’t see how SF could determine who really bought the game. That’s something ED or the publisher have to work around with. Well, anyway for those people who got the gold version and got the code from SF, could we still use the same code over and over again as we reinstall or add new hardware/software update? Excellent point. As I sit here still waiting for a code from Starforce (16 hours and counting) I can only ask the question: "Didn't they test the bloody installation and activation routine???
wolf8218 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Concerning pirates... this game is too small and too unknown for a group of crackers to spend so much time on and waste their resources on. (not to mention risk their freedom) many starforce games have already been cracked using workarounds with CD emulators and blacklist blockers. im sure this could be done with this game as well but each game has its little quirks. the only way to do it i think is to get an expert cracker team, but then again its not a new release nor is it a popular game.

I beg to differ. Numerous links have been posted concerning crackers trying to crack FC or "making a backup" as they claim to call it. These were removed as links to these sites is against forum rules but to suggest that no one is trying is just plain wrong. They are trying and failing. [/url]
BOPrey Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I think they have been failing. The version of SF they use in FC in very good. I partly own a software (B2B, you can't buy from stores) company for the last 10 years and we have been using smart hardware keys plus periodic authentification over the internet. The encoding of each key is unique for each customer. So far, we have not seen illegal copies of our software, and even if we do, we'll know who to go after.
JaBoG32_Viper Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Uhm..talking 'bout copys is a two-sided sword. I use my FC-CD every day, put it out of the drive, put it into the drive, over and over again. I think, in that way the CD will get scratched more and more over the month and someday it wouldn't work anymore. Thats the reason, why i prefer a use of a copy of the original. If the copy get scratched or it wont work, i have the original for making a new copy. I can understand, why the companies use copy-protection and thats ok, but what happends, if my original cd gets broken? Can i get a new one for free if i send in my broken? Dont missunderstand me, I never try to crack the SF but i wanna know, what happens if my cd doesnt work anymore in cause of scratches or something like that. The ones, who crack the protection cause he dont wanna buy the cd, should be kicked out of the community. Only buying the game gives the company enough money to work on the games over the next years.
BOPrey Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 How about getting unlimited number of replacement for the price of two copies of FC?
JaBoG32_Viper Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 If I have the choice to have unlimited replacements for 30 euros more, I buy this. But it doesnt make sense to buy a game with copyprotection if theres no support for manifestations of wear (i hope thats the right term for it)
