ATC probably has a crush on the player and doesn't want them to come to any harm, so think they can protect you by denying you startup permission. :D

Seems to be weather-related. Tried to recreate the setup in a new mission and had no problems, so I switched the weather in the Smerch Hunt mission from dynamic to static with all 0's and then received clearance.

Possibly the airfield only permits takeoff/landing in one direction and the weather made that impossible?

Try to create a mission with wind speeds of 50m / s. You will see that you will not receive clearance for start-up.:)

Side effect of 50m/s wind speeds is that your plane will probably be blown of it's parking ramp. Was funny trying to start-up a plane that would not stand still. :joystick:

So do the weather conditions change every time I restart the mission?

No. You can consider it a bug in the mission. I'd sugggest just making a copy of it, then load your copy in the mission editor and change the weather to static rather than dynamic. Or you could play around with the dynamic values until you get something that it'll actually let you fly.

Or, you could just ignore the ATC and start up any way. Not as if you'll get in trouble for it. I haven't actually flown that mission since the beta so I don't know what the weather is actually like.

Its definately a bug.

I've been using the Smerch Hunt mission all the way through the Beta's and previous patches for JTAC training, without any problems apart from the Oil Press Warning going off due to windmilling engines (now fixed). Just tried the mission again and I'm getting the Negative answer to startup.

I'm not so sure it's a bug, at least not one specific to that mission. It does seem to be a new feature of v1.1.0.8, though, related to use of Dynamic Weather. I have other missions I made myself using Dynamic Weather and I am experiencing the same issue at airfields where the weather is such that there is a strong crosswind component. I do wish ATC would offer some explanation, though...
