Conure Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Hi all, I have only played RoF since the Iron Cross addon came out. Is CoD currently in a worse state than RoF was upon release? If so it could mean good things for CoD as I have heard RoF was awful, and now it's generally accepted as one of the best sims going - along with DCS. Just curious! some1 Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 These two cases are so different that you can't really compare each other. RoF when released was quite solid product, but with many features missing. There were only 4 (2 in Russian version) flyable planes and two 2-seaters, no multiplayer dogfight, no ability to customize joystick curves, the requirement for constant online connection was very controversial. Of course there were some bugs, but fixing them didn't require rewriting half of the game. CoD on the other hand is a bugfest. Upon release it was completely unusable due to amount of technical problems and poor performance. Currently fps improved greatly on most systems, but there are still many severe problems with the game itself. Complex engine management and aircraft performance is not as it should be, AI has superpowers, multiplayer constantly crashes, game interface is very clunky, sounds are placeholders, etc. The so called campaign is a bunch of missions loosely tied together with some weird triggers. There is not much you can actually do with the game other than flying some quick missions, which also is hard because quick missions editor is really bad. It's very hard to predict how the CoD will evolve. It may end up like RoF, becoming the best sim in its class, or it may end up like Lock On 1.0, which was dropped by Ubi after two patches that barely fixed the game. effte Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 +1 on what some1 said. I preordered RoF from the states, so I have been in on it since the very beginning. Now, as of last week, it has finally matured into a simulator which I actually care about. It took upping the view distances to where you are not a virtual incarnation of Mr. Magoo and creating a career mode which generates missions which actually seem to be able to maintain the crucial suspension of disbelief - but eventually they seem to have pulled it off! I'd say there is hope for CoD, but it will take time and, probably most crucially, a continued investment of resources in development. If the latter does not happen, we've been had... ----- Introduction to UTM/MGRS - Trying to get your head around what trim is, how it works and how to use it? - DCS helos vs the real world.
