Multi-monitor and Touch Screen Set Up

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I have been thinking of getting two more monitors (3 total) and a touch screen monitor for A10-C. My question is: Is trackIR necessary? I really like the idea of using MS Kinect in place of trackir. I know that's not possible at the moment but I don't want to spend $160 (tir 5) for something that likely to be replaced by something better. Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.

You may be right in holding off for possible Kinect integration, although whether it will be "official" is doubtful, at least in the beginning, so my source informs me.

I use Track IR with 4 screens, 3 Eyefinity and one touch screen below that which I run Helios on, but with the wide screen setup Track IR becomes less essential.

Not conclusive, but just my 2 peneth worth. :)

@Loz

Thanks for your input, Loz. I want similar set-up like yours and I notice you have crossfired? If so, do you find it beneficial. I read some of the posts here saying that it's not really worth it. Also, how do you like your touchscreen. I have been thinking of getting an Acer. Thanks.

Well as things stand at the moment the second GPU on my Crossfire rig is really redundant. I don't disable it but the only way to output the MFCDs etc is in windows mode so the Crossfire isn't enabled by default. So those posts are correct (for now fingers crossed)

I love the touchscreen and have had good success running Helios with it at virtually no frame rate loss.

If you've not been there yet have a look at Helios at SCSimulations.com, a great donationware program on which you can run virtually photo realistic panels on your touchscreen. Also should mention HawgTouch which does a similar job.

If you want have a look here at my Helios setup.

Good Luck

Agree with Loz on all but I would still say the trackir is essential for a fs.

For racing I don't use it anymore with triple screens but for flying the 3 screens still only gives me a small slice of the sky I want for proper SA and general enjoyment.

I can see the reluctance before you get it but I don't think you would be unsatisfied afterwards. I don't think a tir solution would be inferior in any way to kinect except for wearing something on your head.

Can't disagree with you there Metalnwood, but random exterior light does sometimes play havoc with my TrackIR. Just hoping that if Kinect ever does make it, not only to the PC, but also to DCS A10-C, I will get as good if not better fidelity without having to wear something on my head LOL

I agree that TIR would be supplemental.

What's the difference between TIR 4 and 5? Thanks.
