Phantom_Mark Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 There is a whole bunch of really cheap 7inch android 2.2 tablets on eBay right now, got me thinking, will one of these be any use to use in A10 as an mfd or indeed as a touch screen mfd at some point, or indeed now ?? Can't believe how cheap these things are already !!!! Be a real shame if they are no use at all !!
EtherealN Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 As for "now" - no. There is, to my knowledge, no Android application available for MFCD use. I also wouldn't get a tablet with Android 2.2 - that version of the operating system is not meant for tablet use and such use is not supported by Google. As for the future? Hopefully someone will make an application that allow such use, but I would suspect that it'll end up being targeted to Android 3.x since that version of Android is actually meant and supported for tablets. Phantom_Mark Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 Can you update the os on one of those systems then maybe ? Thanks for the info :)
EtherealN Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Depends on whether the unit has a locked bootloader or not, and on whether 3.x even supports the hardware on it. Most of the really cheap 2.x tablets have equally cheap hardware. It's not worth it. You can get a 3.x tablet for cheap. Only go for the dirt cheap 2.x ones if they have the specific functions you want to use built-in as standard. shu77 Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Actually the same app that lets you use your IPAD as a second screen is now available, for Android. http://www.shapeservices.com/en/products/download.php?product=idisplay&platform=android I was debating the same thing when I saw then, as you do see the odd cheap one, well at least cheaper than a USB screen. I ended up going with the reversing camera screen for my CDU, which worked out way cheaper. Bruins Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Just got myself a Acer touchscreen coupled with Helios and the sim becomes so much enjoyable now. I would recommend getting a big touchscreen monitor. Looks much nicer and fits a lot on there. Phantom_Mark Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 So for arguments sake if I were to buy a USB 7inch touch screen could I slave my UFC or Mfd's to it and actually use them like that snazzy iPad app for example ?? Out of interest how much was the reversing screen ?? And what resolution, no touch I understand of course. Btw, all the Andriod tablets I have seen are Android 2.2 at best, failed to find a version 3 ???

boarder2 Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Shortly after I release iControl DCS V2 for iPad I will be evaluating porting to Android. Unfortunately, I won't be targeting 2.2, it'll be 3.0 or higher if I decide to port. I don't have any Android 2.x devices, and really, I don't see them picking up enough traction now that Honeycomb tablets are out and so much better than 2.x iControl DCS/DCS Virtual Cockpit - Full featured iPad Cockpit - Now with Android support!
