"Following attacks on their helicopter patrols the enemy has determined to remove all opposition in the area. They have warned that should any further attacks on their helicopters take place, they will launch an assault upon your forward air base.

Your orders remain unchanged, engage enemy air assets when detected.

The enemy will mobilise a small elite mechanised battallion, tasked to capture or eliminate the air base, should it be necessary. There is a small joint forces defense company at the base. When ordered, you must RTB immediately and re-arm with suitable munitions and prosecute a CAS mission. This will be decisive to the airbase defense."

This is a rather involved evolution of the "Beer Call" mission. To give choice to the simmer over the timing of events and reactions of the enemy. Not to mention a close run battle for the base! I have attempted to incorporate the following elements that will challenge the solo simmer, in one mission;-

1. Circuit flying- landing with good parameters-tally kept and displayed.(as Beer Call)

2. Flying and fighting in challenging weather. Use of ILS, TACAN.

3. Air to Air combat against battlefield helicopters and other CAS aircraft the A10 is likely to encounter in a hot zone.

4. Rearming with correct munitions loadout, under pressure. (Whilst under attack)

5. Use of JTAC and AWACS.

6. CAS with pressure to defend your base.

7. Choice of when the assault will begin, approaching dusk, dusk or night...depending upon when / if you engage the enemy helo's.

8. Use of Night Vision, if flying at night.

I was inspired by that scene in "Private Ryan", where the platoon are entering an occupied village and its raining heavily...Hopefully thats re-created (especially at the start ) , with ED's excellent rain effects..just turn up the surround sound:thumbup:

Hope its enjoyable! Here is a short film of one pilots efforts;-

Even though I made this, when ever I fly it, it flies differently, with many alternate endings.(one is in the video ;) )

Mission is attached.

Happy flying;)

Edit; BTW, if anyone wants to "tinker" with the mission, be my guest. If you want a wingman, thats one click in the editor or if you would prefer a totally clear and calm evening, thats a couple of clicks! This would make it easier though:music_whistling:. Thats the beauty of this mission editor feature of the sim;)

Are you..

Worried by weather?...

Mortified by Migs?...

Frustrated by lack of IADS at your airbase?...

Require a wingman?...and a sunset to fly into....

Then you may need....

"Clear Escalation"...A variation on the mission and a better recipe for success! Brings more grins when you wins..

Its in a Zip due to a slightly larger file size ( mostly winning anthems:music_whistling:)

These Single Player missions also work well with the latest patch, v1.1.1.1.

You may have to "adjust" the weapons load out in the mission planner first.

If you want to follow the script and begin with an Air to Air loadout and some LGB's ( thats the top most selection now in the weps loadout page).

Also, you now start from a hardened aircraft shelter. (You dont get rain down your neck;)) Then after downing the Hinds land to re-arm for CAS (Defend your airbase)

The Hinds seem to be even more deadly with the new patch. Just try flying toward them, once inside their WEZ they will engage you! That would make them the first shooters and you can have a clear conscience to prosecute the attackers!:music_whistling: (Obvious hint) You have to down one before the "trigger" for the airbase attack will begin.

The patch also seems to run this smoother than before, although when everything gets going you have a lively little war going on in your back yard, testing your GPU, not to mention your airmanship:music_whistling:.

Cheers and a Happy Yuletide to all.:D

Now downloadable from the main site;-

Edit. The mission "Finest Hour" is also downloadable from the main site.;-

This is a more intense "Dangerous Escalation". More threats, but just about winnable:music_whistling:

I was trying to create several cataclysmic effects when/if the base gets captured. v1.1.1.1 does alter some of the pyrotechnics! Not as violent as earlier versions.;)

Under development...I have further modded Finest Hour, with a little scenario at the end, where Custer ( base commander) escapes capture from the Spetznaz. A little trigger that sends him off in his Hummer, to a waiting Chinook. The Chinook takes off when/if he reaches it and attempts to fly to safety. I am still testing this one! I dont know if anyone would appreciate my embellishments? There is a limit to how much one can put into a single mission. I have seen a CTD when I am using the (cheat) repair function at the base? This may be due to all the bombing and shooting going on? :music_whistling: Or it could be I am developing this one too far? If you incur a lot of damage its tempting to switch off after landing and do the ( cheat) repair. As this is unrealistic, I mean, engine replacement/both wings/tail........ Maybe the CTD is a way of preventing any cheating?:D
