Adder1606688006 Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Does anyone have any info on the optimal approach to achieving the lowest possible time-to-altitude for the fighter aircraft in game? I'm interested primarily in the representation in game rather than reality but any documentation on the real aircraft would be welcome! Thanks!
GGTharos Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 What Rip said. The aircraft in game conform very closely to the RL charts, as such if you get your hands on those you're good - notably, at low altitude yor power peak is at around 0.8M, and 0.9M after 5000-10000' Take off, fly level as soon as you're off the ground, accelerate to peak power speed and pitch for mach, as RIP said. If you want UNSUSTAINED climb, same process only you pitch much higher. Up to you when you want to come out of it, but I wouldn't reccomend starting your level out (and watch the g's!) slower than some 350kt above 25000'. Vekkinho Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Adder, it's very relative...faster you fly with greater pitch you'll cover more angels per second! Logical isn't it? However best and most recommended way of climbing to ceiling is pitching for 0.9M. You'll notice that you'll have to reduce pitch as you climb to maintain 0.9M. Air density is lesser up there! Full AB throughout the climb! But if you wanna climb from say 5.000m to 8.000m in least time, firewall your throttle gain some speed and pitch up 90°. You'll probably overshoot but you'll climb as hell! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Sov13t Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Out of the 27 manual: 1. Accelerate to Vi=650-750 km/h till H=200m on Afterburner or Maximum setting. 2. Pitch up and maintain M0.8-M0.85 till 10,000-12,000m 3. At 10,000-12,000m accelerate to M1.6 on full afterburner and gain altitude until vertical speed +3-5m/s. Zakatak Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I might record my 103,000ft moonshot in the F-15 so you get an idea of how to climb like a rocketship. ;)
LawnDart Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Optimal as far as time, fuel or distance covered...? Generally you'd want to keep a high sustained airspeed that yields a high rate of climb, then transition to indicated mach number for the continuation of the climb to higher altitudes. Adder1606688006 Posted July 16, 2011 Author Posted July 16, 2011 Thanks for the info guys. With the vast majority of players seeming to only ever fly at ground level, I'm having a decent amount of success coming in very high, especially on busy servers. So a follow up question, whats the highest altitude I can expect to maintain in a fully loaded aircraft, assuming I follow the correct profile and am happy to run burners the whole way? At the moment I manage to get up to around 45k feet and keep it there, with a climb at a constant 12.5 degrees all the way up.
RIPTIDE Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the info guys. Well if you aircraft is fully loaded all the time your doing it wrong. ;) 45k is not a bad altitude to be at. But as you offload tanks and spears, you'll find yourself able to easily get higher. Ya, see, this 12.5 degrees constant is also doing it wrong. What have we already told you? You change your pitch for about 0.9 Mach. Soviet says the 27 needs to be pitched for 0.8. so... that means get up to speed, pitch up maybe 15+ degrees depending on load, and drop it down as you get higher. EDIT: Ya i agree. Too many players mowing the lawn. Servers need to up bird strikes I think. ;) Edited July 16, 2011 by RIPTIDE [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
EtherealN Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Another thing to note about going high is to always keep in mind what tactical options this gives your opposition. Before A-10C I got a lot of "cheap" kills in the F-15 through launching on"astronauts" from angels 30-35. A TWS shot on them at a45-50 and me at 30-35 means that I have a very easy notch and they have almost zero ability to maneuver to defeat a slammer or 77 that just pops active. EDIT: Ya i agree. Too many players mowing the lawn. Servers need to up bird strikes I think. ;) ...this I do however agree with, even though I haven't flown FC2 much at all in a long while. I still wonder why F-15 pilots go down and do NOE when they wanted to hunt my A-10 or Shark. All it achieves is reduce their WEZ and give me a chance to launch weapons on them in return... :P Unfortunately the birds thing would probably only help on pure A2A servers, though. The penalty to the strikers would be too severe on mixed servers. :( [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
