Mission has been updated 4/23/12

This is a multiplayer navigation practice mission. You must know how to put LL, MGRS and Bullseye coordinates into the CDU. You will also have to do an ILS and TACAN navigation.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Type START in chat to get your first waypoint. After that, the mission will send you chat instructions where to go. Please take off in 2min intervals unless training.

If you die the course will reset. You must go to every waypoint again.

Use ESCAPE to look at briefing diagrams during mission.

Good Luck!

Sorry, maybe with next patch it will be working again. I was going to try to edit it for you but it would of been easier to start from scratch.

If you looking for ILS practice you can still do that with this mission.

Really ah that's great. All I'm looking for is a mission to allow myself and m mate to practise using the ils system and Tacan nav. From your last reply, does that mean that it will still work in 1.09 if I use it for ils only?

Should be a lot sooner than next patch... probably closer to around 3 weeks.. would be even sooner than that if I didn't have so much gosh-darned actual work stuff getting in the way. Should only take me a week of free nights or one busy weekend to finish the new mod that will make all the old chatIOlib missions work with 1109. I hope so at least... you never really know for sure, if or what thorny issues might rear their heads just as you think you are about done with some piece of code.

Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility.

Thats great to hear Speed. I have been following your post in the other threads.

@Cowboy, The mission will run but the triggers telling you to go to certain areas will not work.

Ok , that's good enough for me, at least we can still use tacan and ils, which is all we need.

I gave this mission a try last night but got stuck on the first waypoint -- how do I figure out what 12DME means? I mean, I know what DME is, but you seem to be referring to some kind of a DME station that I could dial into my TACAN or something -- and I don't recall that ever being mentioned in the manual. Hints?

A TACAN gives you distance as well. On your HSI you will see the distance in the top left of the instrument. Put the course in your HSI. Fly the course until your instrument reads 12 DME. At 12nm from the tacan on the radial it tells you to fly, you will get your next "task".

PM me if you get stuck and would like me to walk you through it on teamspeak.

Right, I eventually figured it out on subsequent runs. I guess I'm just still a bit confused by your terminology, though ... I understand "fly the 290 radial out to 12nm from the TACAN" by I'm not sure why you refer to that as "12 DME". DME is a device, not a unit of measure, right?

Posted

Yes your correct Greg about DME. Older instruments in aircraft used DME separate from the other equipment so it was referred to as 12 DME. Its pretty common today to still call it DME. Some ILS have a DME arc to fly as you intercept them. ATC would say fly the 12dme arc not the 12nm arc. Its even labeled on charts as 12DME.

Kindof like ILS,VORS and NDBs. We say intercept the ILS.

Finally successfully completed this mission for the first time last night after about a week and a half of attempts. Before about a month ago, I had never bothered to learn much about the CDU, so this was all new to me. It's a not hard mission, it just requires that the pilot understand basic navigation tasks. Nice job mia389, thanks for this one!

Definitely gotta work on my ILS landing skills, though ...

Glad you liked it Greg.

Firewing, I really am not much of a movie maker. The links in the first post will really help you though.
