The pictures and descriptions in the manual do not mention this box. It's purpose is not obvious and I can't tell what it does. I could be missing something I am sure!;)

7. FAC - Engage Group.

The same “FAC - Attack Group” task, but there is the same issue of “Attack Group – Engage Group” and “Attack Unit – Engage Unit” pairs. If you have several “FAC – Engage Group” tasks note that the FAC will assign these targets not in order those enlisted, but in order he decide himself. To force FAC assign target you want first, assign higher priority to that target.

“VISIBLE” flag. If the flag is true FAC knows about target.

Task priority can be set in “PRIORITY” spin box. Greater value – higher priority.

I assume that without this flag enabled the unit will only be assigned after the JTAC sees the target. If it is checked the JTAC can assign the Target even if it isn't visible to it.

Where is that quote from, it is not familiar and the last line about priority is the exact opposite from the information in the GUI manual. It says that zero is the highest priority.

The PRIORITY number is used to set the action priority in relation to other actions of the waypoint. The priority number represents the order this action will take relative to other actions, starting with '0' as the highest priority.

Back to the original question. So that basically turns off the difference between the TASK - FAC-Assign Group and the ENROUTE TASK - FAC-Engage Group.

The way I understood it, that was the difference, whether the unit "knows" about the target, or has to locate it, before it can report it. The following is from the manual, but it is also from the same page that does not show that box.

Remember, because this is an Enroute Task, the AFAC will have to independently detect the target group prior to being able to issue targeting commands against it. As described above, target detection will depend on a number of dynamic variables in-game, including possible terrain obstructions or weather interference. If no group is designated by the mission designer, the AFAC will not issue any targeting commands.

and this for the TASK version.

Note: The FAC: Assign Group Task assumes full situational awareness for the FAC. The target's location will always be known and the FAC will always attempt prosecute the attack if conditions permit.

I am sure there is some subtle functional difference but without any other information I guess I will just experiment and see how it works,
