Just a total noob question:

Tried setting up a simple MP mission -> 4ship. Wasnt able though to include all four planes as "Client".

Why the hell cant I set this up?

Looking in the forum I didnt find a dedicated thread but some other builders posted implicitly that I would have to put there four individual planes.

Are there any drawbacks of this? Can this really be? Will the second human guy then be addressable using the wingman radio call? Will SADL work?

I am not mentioning the extra-workload for the builders to set up payload and waypoints individually....

No, wingman radio calls only are for AI. Yes, put four separate aircraft in there. As far as the data link goes- you're all humans, so just set your datalink ID to whatever group you want.

So right now the major difference is this:

Aircraft people can join are known as "humanable" units. They are infinitely respawnable, and have no fixed takeoff time.

Aircraft that the AI fly only live once, and have fixed takeoff (or rather, spawn) times.

Until/unless ED transitions over the Falcon 4 model (aircraft were flown by AI unless a human jumped into that slot, flights had fixed and scheduled take off times, no infinite respawning), it's just gonna be this way, unfortunately.

But yea, the way Falcon 4 did it was better by most people's opinions. Of course, the best solution would be to have both options available, since for some missions, the unrealistic ones (and unrealistic does not mean bad, since we're here to have fun and not everyone's idea of fun involves realism to the max- no, that's only Mower :D), we're going to want infinitely respawnable aircraft that take off at any time.

Speed, does that mean in Falcon4 a human could not join mid way through the mission?

No, you could take over an AI aircraft at any time, just by clicking it on the campaign map, then selecting the aircraft that you wanted to fly in the flight that appeared, then hitting fly. However, in falcon 4 multiplayer flights, it was generally, but not always, discouraged. For one, it's not realistic, and kinda cheating, after all, if you're doing this it's probably becuae you got shot down, secondly, it just doesn't feel right joining an aircraft in mid air, third, it was even further a cheat because in the versions of Falcon 4 we played, it would often restock your weapons to whatever they were at takeoff , fourth you wouldn't be well briefed with what the mission was, and finally, the AI would often go dumb while you Agent Smithed into their cockpits, and then you'd find yourself in a suicide dive or in the crosshairs of a MiG. The person running the dynamic campaign does not appreciate you needlessly wasting valuable assets (F-16s).

So the falcon 4 model is flights occur regardless of what the humans are doing; the humans can choose to join or not, in fact, the overwhelming (95+%) of F-16C sorties always occurred under AI control because there could be several hundred sorties a "day". The humans can choose to take over any F-16 the AI were controlling at any time, but most people naturally choose to take over one of these aircraft at the time of ramp start, taxi, or takeoff.

Thanks for the clear answer - is though a little bit discouraging.

SADL at least works - tried it with another human....

Still - though the F4AF was unrealistic it was at least easier to set up a flight. I am just thinking of easiness of building a mission - heads up - waiting for more patches ???? :music_whistling:

No kidding it was easy to set up a flight. Hell, a whole package, up to 20 aircraft, was easy to set up. You could do it in a minute. I was both pilot and the supreme allied air commander. Awesomely fun

Some of my favorites was when I schedule MASSIVE packages against specific enemy targets, specifically, airbases. F-15s, F-16s, F-18s, etc, would converge, knock down the defences, and then the bombing fleet would come and turn the airbase into moon-on-earth. Hell, I sent something like 6 F-22s, 12 F-16s, 10 B1s, and 10 B-2s against Split AB once. They never launched another damn -29 out of there for the rest of war :D

IIRC panzertard brought out a mod for the ME which allows you to copy and paste units including all of their waypoints. Sorry I had a quick look in the modders section & couldnt find it. Maybe pm panzertard.
