Laurius Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Hi Gents, At last and to my great surprise, I discovered that the Steam version of DCS A-10C has been finally patched. I was really intriguished by a Windows update that was really going to nowhere. I stopped it, reboot the computer and started the Hog. Before entering cockpit, i checked the ME/MISC/Credit window and SURPRISE ! It was there ! I knew I could have skipped the Stam update but I prefered to wait since tomorrow, I'm getting a new hardware and I hope I can transfer the Steam version of DCS A-10C on it. Then hasta la vista Steam... but only for this great sim. In the future, I will run the next updates from ED site or buy a version from them Asus P8Z68 Deluxe, Intel Core i7-2600K (3.4 GHz), Corsair Vengeance 2x4096 Mo DDR3 1866 MHz, SSD 120 Go Vertex 2, EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0 4Go (04G-P4-2978-KR), TM HOTAS Warthog #03797 (MB replaced), Saitek Combat Pro Rudder, TrackIR 5, TM Cougar MFDs with Lilliput 8" UM 80
EtherealN Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 I'm getting a new hardware and I hope I can transfer the Steam version of DCS A-10C on it. If you are able to run your old HDD, or backup to another HDD, you can just copy your entire C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common folder straight off. When you then start steam on the new machine, with the common folder copied over, Steam will run an integrity verification on each of them (it might also look like it is actually downloading them, but with a "download" speed that is as fast as your HDD read speed. :P ) Do NOT use the built-in backup feature in Steam. It is absolutely terrible. Laurius Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 Thank you very much EtherealN for this fast answer really usefull to me  I didn't back up the file with Steam yet but I was thinking to do so. Again, thank you for this warning. I think I should go through it. EtherealN Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Yeah, I tried using the built-in system when I got this computer, and it just refused to work. Turned out that it has a penchant for breaking the backup files... Doh... >.< But fortunately I hadn't erased my old main HDD, so I just plugged it in and copied everything straight over and happy days followed. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
gazcrowbar Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 ED should make sure they get the updates included in the steam news feature. It's a novel way of more publicity for those who read the news tab in steam.
Elwin Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Yesterday evening I couldn't launch A-10, after I installed Windows updates (about 7-8 of them), can it be somehow related to the new patch on Steam? I have bought and installed through Steam (version 1.1.0.8) and when 1.1.0.9 patch came out, I have downloaded and used the patch from ED website. Now that the patch is also available on Steam, could it be that it automatically tried to update and corrupted some files? Looking into logs, there was an error that mission_editor.lua cannot be open (that was right after installing the updates), after I rebooted some other .lua file couldn't be open (don't remember which one). I have also other problems, so after another reboot my both screens one after the other stopped working - lost digital signal so now I only see black screen after I reboot. So I suppose it must be related with the windows updates I installed before (screens work fine in safe mode), will have to revert the updates somehow and then hopefully also a-10 will work again.
ericleroi Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I had a similar issue and this was after the Steam version had been patched but before the Windows updates were applied. Starting a mission fails and takes me directly to the debriefing screen. If I enable the Administrator account and run it from there it works fine. I had exactly the same issue with Flaming Cliffs 2 - that turned out to be an issue with my Asus Xonar drivers. The non-Steam installation which is at the same level is working fine. OS is Windows 7 64bit. TM HOTAS Warthog : Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals GTX580 (3Gb) : i7 2600k : 8Gb DDR3 : Asus P8P67 Pro W7 64bit
