Krebs20 Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I am in the middle of restoring a suncom throttle to Usb and modernizing the whole lot. I was going to rebuild the pots for hall sensors. But after testing them I've found them to be in really good working order. I have a Leo Bodnar BU0836 in the mail and I'm all ready to wire everything up except the pots. The BU0836 has a 5volt, ground, and input for its pots hookup. (3wires) The pots in the suncom only have a ground and input. (2 wires) If I only wire it up with these 2 wires will the board recognize it? The pots have another terminal that is not used. I don't want to just wire it up and pray. To easy to fry it. I should get the BU0836 Monday. Any one know there way around this? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
m0jo Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Connect the 3 terminal because the BU0836 is measuring the voltage at the middle of a voltage divider created by the pot. The two external connector need to be wired to +5v and GND respectively, the middle connector (the wiper) need to be connected to the analog input. The old pot wiring of the Suncom was by a joystick port/soundcard and these measured the resistance between one external terminal and the middle terminal. 1
Sokol1_br Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 (edited) 1= +5V or GND 3= GND or +5V 2 = Signal - pick one, these potentiometer have two tracks Sokol1_Br Edited August 14, 2011 by Sokol1_br 1
Krebs20 Posted August 14, 2011 Author Posted August 14, 2011 The Leo board didn't come in yet. I assume it will be in the mail tomorrow. Thanks a lot both of you! going by the picture, from left to right. 1 is 5 volt, 2 is signal then the other 2 is ground? Sokol, are you the same person who is on the simhq forums fixing up old suncom products? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Sokol1_br Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Ops, my fault in previous post, 3 is GND (or +5V if need invert response). Both 2 is Signal, use one. Yes, I have a post about "USBerized" Suncon F-15 and SFS in SimHQ. Sokol1
Krebs20 Posted August 18, 2011 Author Posted August 18, 2011 Thanks again. When you wired up the throttle did you use the slew for the hat? Also, any must know info for building a matrix? I think I'm doing it right but cannot test till its together. What are the 2 extra 5 volt pins for? This board doesn't have any output functions I'm not aware of, Does it?. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Sokol1_br Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 When you wired up the throttle did you use the slew for the hat? When I rewire SFS, I rewire a Suncom stick too, so BU0836 HAT position is used in stick. In SFS only I use only buttons. But you can these HAT positions for slew control. Also, any must know info for building a matrix? I think I'm doing it right but cannot test till its together. BU0836 Matrix mean that wire from every Row go to 6 buttons, and wire from every Collumn go to 6 buttons. And every button use one 1N4148 diode. A good BU0836 matrix How To: http://www.737ng.co.uk/matrix.pdf What are the 2 extra 5 volt pins for? In fact are a extra +5V and GND pins in Bu0736, useful to light some LED's, but observe current limit. This board doesn't have any output functions I'm not aware of, Does it?. No, only inputs - digital (32 buttons + HAT) and analogs (8 axis). Sokol1
