Left or Right Modifier key with HidMacros?

Is it possible in hidmacros to send for example left or right modifier key in the keyboard secuence, something like LCtrl + RCtrl + A?

I played around with HIDMacros briefly, and the answer from their help file seems to be < or > for left or right. So, for example, I used <^s which sent left-ctrl+s. Seems to work well.

My issue with HIDMacros, and this may just be the nut behind the HOTAS, but it seemed to work when assigning key presses within DCS options menu. Once in sim, however, the results were erratic at best. I think there was a thread relating to the fact that DCS captures key presses on a low level, then HID intercepts the press and outputs a new press. DCS sees two commands and behaves accordingly.

The suggestions I have seen were mainly around ensuring that the keys you use on HID dont have anything else mapped in their native state.

 

To me that sort of defeated the purpose of using HID in the first place (i.e. if you use G on keyboard 2 as CDU G then make sure you un-map G so HID doesn't send a G and a Shift G etc) but to got me thinking that the easiest thing to do is not run HID Macro and set the CDU to be the letters on your Keyboard and just remap anything that is using an unmodified key (i.e. G for gear toggle) to have a modifier (i.e. G for gear should be LSHFT+G)

 

This way your second keyboard can be used as a CDU/UFC scratchpad and your main keyboard, can be used with the modifier (for example when it says press SPACE to continue and it really means send a PAC-1 sequence to continue) and you wont need HID
