UPDATED PICS WIRED AND WORKING ON POST #25!!!

UPDATE VIDEO ON HOW TO SETUP YOUR PHIDGET BOARD WITH HELIOS ON POST #48!!!

I am in the early stages of building the ufc and have the pcb "Radio Shack bread board" about half way complete. I still need to install the leds for back lighting and wiring everything to the leo bodnar BU0836X. I have two super bright white 3mm leds installed for the master caution light so it should be nice and bright. The master caution button is made of yellow acrylic so it will be bright yellow when it lights up. The leds are connected to a phidgets 1031 led control board which helios controls. The black ground wire is also solderd in place and ready to be connected.

Again i am just putting it all together so credit goes to:

1. Pitbldr for the UFC Panel and tips.

3. Phidgets 1031 led Control Board. http://www.phidgets.com/products.php?product_id=1031

2. leo bodnar usb controller BU0836X http://www.leobodnar.com/products/BU0836X/

3. www.scsimulations.com for Helios www.scsimulations.com

4. www.superbrightleds.com http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/component-leds/green-3mm-led-18-degree-viewing-angle-4500-mcd/307/1239/

5. www.Digikey.com Tactile buttons http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=P12222SCT-ND

Keep looking for updates as i complete the UFC so enjoy the pics. I will upload a video of how it works and how to configure helios to make it come alive. Here is a link to my caution panel which is 100% ready to go. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=79686

Hey TulsA,

Looks good. I am getting ready to start on a UFC myself. Yours is looking good. The extra bright LED source should be handy.

Thank you cichlidfan. The three unused buttons i may program for esc, pause, active pause or F1, F6, F2. I hope to get it useable this weekend minus the led board.

UPDATE!

Ok well she is almost finished. This is a trial fit with a box i cut out of plexiglass with a jigsaw and epoxied it all together. I ordered a box from pitbldr aswell. I made a backup incase my boards don't fit in pit's ufc box.

I have the usb control pcb and a phidget 1031 inside the box to control the leds for the ufc plus the leds for the whole left console when i build it. I wanted a flush box so i made my oun stand offs for the boards and used aluminum angle stock from lowe's and fridge magnet strips from wal-mart in order to make the top lid magnetic and very easy to open.

!!TIP!!.. I added a small square strip of very thin 3m double sided adhesive i use at work fro cell phone iphone repair in order to keep the keys from rattling or moving around so they stay in place and give an even more solid feel when pushing buttons.

I am impressed, a jigsaw on plexiglass! I would be sanding for a day after and the box wouldn't be square. Metal and I get along much better.

Question, what are you connecting the last three buttons to? I was planning on using the Bodnar board as well and wasn't sure about using some of the other connections for those.

Yup it's all done by jigsaw. You have to get very fine teeth blades and change them often and when cutting go extremly slow and straight. I don't have access to alot of metal so it plexiglass for me..lol

I will have to wire the three extra buttons to another board as i am out of connections with this one.

True about the cutting, my horrible memories go back to jr. high shop and I am sure the blades weren't remotely sharp.

Another board is what I thought. I was OK without them for the moment though I will probably put in the switches pigtailed out to a connector so I could easily grab them later, assuming I get this to work!;)

If I ever end up in Tulsa in need of electronic repair, I sure know who I am calling!!

I will have to wire the three extra buttons to another board as i am out of connections with this one.

Just use the hat switch connections for not commonly used buttons. The only problem using them is pressing two at the same time will not generate the results you expect (sends diagonal to computer instead). But for the UFC that's not really and issue. Who the hell is flying the plane if your using two hands on the UFC.

I thought about the hat connections but was not sure if it would work right.. so i'll give it a shot. Thank you.

New pics of the wiring up the rats nest..lol I took some pics with the leds at full brightness and some at a more comfortable level. Hope this gives you guys some ideas of what to do or not to do  I think i'm going to add a few more leds to even out a few dim areas.
