I've more-or-less finished my cockpit layout and I'm now hoping to move from the carpentry side to the electrical side of things. I am planning to make the UFC, CDU, AHCP, Countermeasures, Electrical, and Fuel panels.

I was just wondering how many Bodnar boards I will be needing for this project. On the UFC and CDU alone, I am guessing one board will not be enough?

Just need to know how deep this "pit" is before I jump into it :helpsmilie:

I'd start with two, that should be enough to get the consoles put together first.

The boards take 32 buttons and 8 axes. Single throw switches (ON/OFF) are the most efficient because they only require one input, double throw, although easier to configure will require 2 inputs each.

So get counting! I might put together a chart of requirements for switches and inputs on usb boards. Use the electrical panel as an example;

Using ST (ON/OFF) where possible;

ST switches = 5, required inputs = 5

DT swithes = 1, required inputs = 2

Total inputs required = 7

Remaining = 25.

Using DT (ON/ON)

DT switches = 5, required inputs = 10

DT (ON/OFF/ON) = 1, reqired inputs = 2

Total inputs required = 12

Remaining 20.

You can see how much there is to be saved when using ST switches here, the cost in work is negligable!

BUT: Remember DCS has the luxury of Helios and adaptable LUA files. Considering using other sims? Make sure you can make ST switches work with the sim or you could end up with useless panels.

Hmmm... at the moment, it's only DCS A10 and maybe Falcon 4 BMS. I'm not too committed to other sims yet to be bothered by non-compatibility with switches.

Yep, two boards sounds about right for now. I see Mr. Bodnar's raised the price of the boards. Damn, gotta clear this new project with the big boss again. Requisition forms to fill out, favors to do... I guess I better get crackin' on the shoe rack and step stool :D

With regards to push buttons for CDU/UFC, what do you think of this button or this other button?

Also, if Helios can make an On-Off switch work with just one input, how about the On-Off-On switch (like the Master Arm toggle), will it require only two?

Yes, an SPDT (ON/OFF/ON) Will only require two inputs - (ON - 1, OFF - Null, ON - 2), and the ground will be bound to the ground for either of the two inputs.

Thanks guys.

pcalvert, much appreciated! Can you link the stuff you've actually used? One of my main problems with internet searching is that I can't really tell the actual size. Looks like they've got a better selection than Maplins as well!

CyBerkut, thanks for the heads up on that one!

I've attached a document highlighting each toggle switch required for building panels. I might look into doing the other buttons another night!

Thanks pcalvert, but that is a round-button push switch. I could use that, but also looking for some square-button ones. Thanks though, at least I can make-do for now.

regarding to switches, and any other pit parts:

A.

I'm looking for quite a while fine place with all (ok not all most) the sw, parts for DCS pit.

toggle switch - 15mm lever not 10mm, they too small.

with locker - but not for 35-50$ per piece.

long and short lever Potentiometers

long and short lever Rotary Switch

long and short lever Rotary Encoder Switch.

etc

not to expensive and i can compromise for the quality.

any help with reasonable sites link will be thankful.

B.

i have a guy from China that can provide any of the parts above and most of the parts needed for a pit includes display- cheaper than half for some parts, but :( with minimum order of 100 pcs / 50 pcs for some.

Has anyone tried to buy pit parts quantity and cheaply not from China?

Thanks Avi
