Mt5_Roie Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Is it possible to set up a helicopter group in a mission to do a pilot recovery - but have them recover a player that has ejected? I think it would be cool to have a mission where one pilot get shot and has to eject and the rest of the flight has to secure his area while he finds safety. Once safe, they can call in the helios to come rescue. Since you can move on the ground after you eject I think it would be exciting. Plus with Tars using the emergency radio to located the pilot would be a challenge. But is it possible? Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
nomdeplume Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 No, because waypoints have to be set at particular locations - you can't dynamically decide where to send units in the game. The best you could get would be to have one or more designated pick-up spots that the player has to get to in order to be picked up. However even then I don't think there's any way to determine if the pilot-walking is in a particular location, so you won't know when to pick the player up.
Mt5_Roie Posted October 21, 2011 Author Posted October 21, 2011 Ok so suppose I have mission where I"m fliying lead and I know that I'm going to get hit and eject. I have my flight back up while I land. I then radio in for an air pickup and am told the exact cordinate to go to. So my flight has to now defend me against enemy combabants in the area. Once I reach the desitnation the helios can come get me. The question is, does the sim see an ejected pilot waling into a trigger zone as an event? Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
Jona33 Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 The question is, does the sim see an ejected pilot waling into a trigger zone as an event? No. If you could make it to a pickup zone that was pre arranged than possibly another person would be able to use the F10 menu to call helicopters but you won't disappear. Also they won't see you on the ground. It would be tricky to say the least. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
Speed Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 (edited) The question is, does the sim see an ejected pilot waling into a trigger zone as an event? No. Furthermore, in multiplayer, the ejected pilot is local only- only the person who ejected will see the ejected pilot. Same goes for the “Easter egg” UAZ you can drive. However, dynamically tasking a rescue helo to fly to and hover at the coordinates of where a pilot ejected may be possible with a considerable bit of Lua scripting- I know of a way that should work. I have considered trying to tackle the problem, but not anytime in the near future, that’s for sure.
