-Ice Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Fired up some DCS action last night and found out that the gun pipper now has two dots -- a central one and another dot that moves. It stays more-or-less vertically down from the central one and distance from the central dot would change depending on how close you were to the target. Has anyone else noticed this? Why'd this come in on 1109? I sure didn't notice it in 1107 and don't remember it in 1108, though I've only logged about 2 hours in 1108. Is this real-world accurate? Thanks! - Ice
159th_Viper Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 HEI vs API Impact points. Is this real-world accurate? Everything on the DCS: A-10C is real-world accurate. -Ice Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Hmmm... so which is which? And are you saying one type of round will impact at one point and the other will impact at another point? - Ice
159th_Viper Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Hmmm... so which is which? And are you saying one type of round will impact at one point and the other will impact at another point? API is the top IIRC. Depending on the range/slant angle of the airframe at time of firing they will either impact at different points, alternatively converge at a single point - It's up to the Pilot. -Ice Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 I see, makes sense too. Armor piercing - denser - keeps momentum for longer. I thought it was like a "spread marker," which meant rounds will impact the point between the two dots. I think it sorta does anyway. :D - Ice
GGTharos Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 (edited) Yep, 425 grams for the PGU-14 vs 360 grams for the PGU-13. The penetrator is not a 30mm projectile though; it is contained inside the 30mm round which also includes some incendiary filling IIRC. http://timemilitary.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/30mmgau2.pdf I see, makes sense too. SmokeyTheLung Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I think it's a .30 cal penetrator. Afaik there is no incendiary filler, but depleted uranium is a pyrophoric (?) material that has incendiary properties... MagnumHB Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Did this thread get stuck in a time warp? It feels like .9 just came out again. For even more detail on this, note that PAC-1 currently stabilizes on the HEI pipper instead of the correct, central API pipper. This is a bug that should be resolved in the next patch. .30 cal 30mm. Quite different.
GGTharos Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 No, it's definitely not 30mm. 30mm. Quite different. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
MagnumHB Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Ah, I see the situation now. That's what I get for reading the thread too quickly. I guess I'm just too used to people confusing imperial and metric units in this context.
