Shaddowdog Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 In the cold start mission how do you get ground power initialized? I think you need ground power applied before you start your Ka-50 cold start sequences since the first buttons pushed are the external AC & DC power. New to Blackshark but have been doing A10C for several months now.
spikenet Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 call your ground crew on the radio and ask for it ;) I usually dont bother and just use onboard batteries
nomdeplume Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 ^^ Hehe. :D You don't need ground power, and I'd be surprised if it was commonly used. The batteries are sufficient for the fuel pumps and you can get the APU up and then once your engines are up to normal power they'll supply all the power you need via their generators and the inverter. With the door open and your engines off, ground crew can hear you so you just use the normal comms menu (\). However it sounds like the ground crew might be absent in some missions so if you're not getting a response it's possibly just because that mission doesn't have the needed ground vehicles to provide service.
Daniel M Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 One benefit (someone correct me if i'm wrong) requesting ground power is your INU will begin alignment* while you're still spiinning up. Since it takes what 3 to 5 minutes for that to get all straightened out before take off, its nice to flip all of the switches and be ready to go by the time the engines are good to go (just about ) *I might be confusing terms, but i know you're supposed to wait for HUD NOT READY to go away before enabling AP dampening
Shaddowdog Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 Thanks guys, I was following a start sequence that failed to mention the batteries. After I posted the message I realized that the utube video was lacking that step.
BigBANGtheory Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Is the cold start mission a good place to start for rookie pilots given the absence of an interactive tutorial on BS2, or should we be looking elsewhere?
