tyrspawn Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 When you put your gun piper over your SPI/TGP the SPI/tgp disappear. Anyway to stop it from doing that?
ralfidude Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Not really. Not that I am aware of. There is however a small workaround. Use the Master Mode button to turn your systems to GUNS. Then with the HUD as SOI, press DMS right short to switch between the gun pippers. Instead of using the big circle that takes up so much space, I usually switch to the next pipper, which is the cross with the range number next to it. It's small and will let you see the marker until the pipper is right on top of it. Besides, it is NOT advisable to be flying right on target with the pipper right over your target for a very long time. It lets the enemy armor get their guns zeroed in on you as you come in. The best approach is to turn into the target, so that the moment you are turned upright and facing the target, you are just about ready to shoot. This enables you to see the target marker on the HUD until the moment you fire which will be the moment where the gun pipper is looking right at the target obscuring it. PLUS, it will leave you at a slight advantage because of the slow turning turrets of the enemies that are still turning to zero in on you. You can avoid taking fire altogether. JG2_Miller Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 If you're carrying some Mavs it's also possible to slew them to your SPI. Instead of the usual SPI symbol the Mav symbol doesn't disappear if you hold your gun pipper over it.

Disable CCIP GUN CROSS OCCULT option in IFFCC TEST menu, and use the gun cross in CCIP mode for aiming. And there is no way to disable rocket pipper occultation. bluepilot76 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Is it right that this happens though? Seems very unlikely to me! Its a nuisance! Technical Specs: Asus G73JW gaming laptop... i7-740QM 1.73GHz ... GTX460m 1.5GB ... 8GB DDR5 RAM ... Win7 64 ... TIR5 ... Thrustmaster T16000m

That SPI symbol disappears under gun/rocket pipper? Yes this is how it works on the real jet. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] К чему стадам дары свободы? Их должно резать или стричь. GGTharos Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Yes, it is how it happens. It is done this way in the real jet so that the pilot doesn't have symbology obscuring his target. ARM505 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 IRL, your eyes are better able to pick up finer details at distance. Therefore, it makes perfect sense to use your eyes to discern the target, rather than rely on the HUD target box, as we are tempted to do in the sim, where everything appears to be in the same plane (ie flat on our screens). What GG says makes perfect sense - IRL, too much crap on the HUD just gets in the way.

tyrspawn Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Speaking of which, is there anyway to zoom in on the hud, like with * and / on the numpad, but using trackir? I wonder if there is a "Smart" hud zoom feature where if you move your head toward the hud it zooms in but returns when you back off. Falcon 4 BMS has this down properly - and I wonder if there is some setting in DCS to pull it off.
