Stated that ATC and JTAC call wind direction as "wind from" instead of "wind to" you can read in briefing page just like set in ME, could someone please tell me if LASTE's windedit entries should be "wind to" or "wind from"?

In other words: when I set wind layers in LASTE I have to entry wind direction as I read on briefing page or I need to add 180°?

In the jet, wind is FROM.

Without looking in the latest build to confirm, I'm almost certain that in the ME, wind is TO (which is backwards).

I concur.

Ok, so it means I need to input on LASTE the wind direction indicated in briefing adding 180°, right? On the contrary, I need to input the wind direction just like ATC and JTAC calls?

Hi Charlie,

Here is what I remember, but it was from a very old thread on this topic, so I am not sure if it is still valid.

I wrote it down, because this is what the discussion distilled on this topic.

CDU Wind Conversion Process:

1) Convert Mission Editor elevation values from meters to feet.

2) Add 180 degrees to Mission Editor wind bearing values.

3) For Mission Editor windspeed values, you need to convert M.E. provided values of X m/s to km/h for the CDU. (Where X is the windspeed value, provided by the Mission Editor, multiply X by 3.6 to get km/h)

4) Enter converted data into CDU, and test.

Someone else will need to chime in on the JTAC/ATC values.

Hope this helps.

I think that the CDU assumes the value entered is knots, not km/hr. Which means you'd have to perform an additional conversion.

The ME really needs to be displaying these things in knots and nautical miles. That it doesn't is one of the few things I don't like about DCS. It was fixed for aircraft, but it still needs to be fixed for weather.

It's been a long time since I've used the JTAC, so I'd have to set up a mission to check for consistency between ME/JTAC/ATC.

Yeah, I agree...it's just what was written on my Post-It note, so I very well may be wrong.

If it is knots...then the conversion is 1 Meter per Second = 1.9438444924406 Knots (Roughly double your m/s to get knots).

Wind speed is actually in knots, as stated in flight manual on page 207:

"First enter the magnetic wind direction as three digits and then the wind speed in knots as two digits"

And the words "magnetic wind direction" make me think more to "wind to" than to "wind from"... So: are you really sure that LASTE input is about "wind from"??

Charlie,

Yes, absolutely positive. Wind is ALWAYS expressed as a direction FROM. This is a universal standard.
