Hey, great vid, Wildfire, eagerly bookmarked, "tanking for dummies", exactly what I need! It's a terrific reference.

You know you could avoid messing things up by going to an exterior view if you record the track rather than the live mission? TIR works during track playback, something that delighted me from the very first days of LOMAC.

That barrel roll around the KC-135 with a newly-full tank of gas would not have endeared you to your c/o.

There's a strong chance that microwaves don't just do thermic damage to cells, so dosage should be considered.

Study after study after study can never find any conclusive and reproducible evidence that low levels of low frequency EM radiation are harmful - at least, I haven't seen one that isn't repudiated by a different study or has results that are conclusive. So I wouldn't say it's a "strong" chance. Just a chance. So even if there IS some mechanism besides thermal damage, it stands to reason that it's a very weak effect, or it would have shown up in studies more clearly. I think people just worry too much. You should spend your time finding safer methods for personal travel rather than worrying about whether your cellphone will give you brain cancer.

Radar and electronics are my professional field so....

I dont know the F-16 AN/APG in detail but I believe its a forward facing radar and would do relatively little harm to anything behind it. We have cases on carriers of people being radiated on the deck and becoming sterile and there is an urban legend that I dont know if its been confirmed yet but it could possibly damage the Y chromosone and you would have nothing but boys or something. Thats probably completely ridiculous, but we used to take note of how many airdales we met with only boys and we cant help but wonder if there was something behind that....

Most times it accidently happens on the deck its usually the fault of the E-2 guys and with the dome radar the arc is 360 so everyone is basically screwed. Power level makes a huge amount of difference and therefore it takes a massive amount of transmitted power to do any damage that would be visible to the eye. I would venture to say that in order to transmit the power needed you would have to deal with the possibility of melting the transmitter.

Think about a lightning bolt.

The change in potential is what makes the lightning jump from place to place, and that is also what causes the burns in your skin when it jumps out of a person, however gamma radiation passes through the body with ease, and would not leave any kind of mark. The damage would only be done to internal organs. It is gamma radiation so in simplistic terms it only carries energy not like a lightning bolt that carries current and voltage, i.e. power. Similarly you would have to put a person in a very large very powerful microwave to actually cook them, power levels that as far as I know should only be attainable possibly with an EA-6B.

So speed is absolutely right, low energy waves arent gonna do jack. Typically the kind found on a fighter. Its just a safety measure that the military has in place for the what if scenario.

And dually noted bahger, but I only made those vids for a friend who was interesting in buying DCS, I doubt I'll be making anymore.

Wildfire, I'm sure you know what you're talking about, but I object a bit to the explanation. Lightning bolts carry energy, energy is just the integral of power over time. You can't talk about energy with no power, or power with no energy, because that would require infinite time or zero time, respectively. An example is that here at UT they have this laser that can output incredible power levels (> 1 PW, or 1,000,000,000,000,000 Watts), but each shot only lasts like a tenth of a picosecond so the total pulse energy is like the same energy released by a 60 Watt light bulb shining for a few seconds.

When energy/power levels are low enough to not cause thermal damage, what matters more is how the energy is quantized. It is these little quantized packets of EM radiation- called photons- that can cause ionization damage to tissue. A microwave photon simply doesn't pack enough energy to break a molecular bond. UV, x-ray, and gamma ray photons do. In fact, it's a little odd to be talking about microwave photons. They are of such a low energy that the quantum effects of microwave photons can usually be ignored. IR is typically the lowest energy EM radiation that photon detectors are used for; go lower than IR, and you're going to be using some kind of antenna :)

Yeah, I was just trying to keep it relatively simple.

The minute we go molecular its time to break out the chem books... and I f*in hate chem based sciences (QM). So Im gonna stop here. Well played sir.

So your saying bond length and size is negligible as compared to em photons regardless? Ok im done.....

In my Squadron apart from 1 pilot (who had 1 of each) we all had girls. Maybe there's something in that chromosone theory.
