chromium Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 (edited) Hi to all: I used Photoshop and now I'm starting to use MapOverlay to prepare tactical maps for briefings. Every time I have to use base-layout extracted via screenshot from the ME or the old famous tactical map for Lock-on and BS1 (area-restricted). To be more consistant and realistic, also to be faster in tactical map editing, I'm looking for topographic map of causcasus of about 1:100.000 o 1:200.000 (or similar), obvioulsy about the area of the DCS theatre... and I only found payware at mapstore. Can anyone report some links or resources, if available? An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.
MadTommy Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 If you look in ...\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\Bazar\Terrain\A-10C\Maps\TAD_COLLECTION.zip you can find all the maps that are in the TAD. With a bit of photoshop work you can easily map up some maps. (You'll need the dds plugin from Nvidia to open the dds files) There was a web site with the maps.. but i has just closed. Ghanja Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 It's actually pretty easy. Just use the MFCD_page_TAD_CHART_DEFAULT_MAP_SET.lua file to choose your map section. Then it's time for the puzzlemaker in photoshop ... :smilewink: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] .:: My System ::. .:: My Paintings ::.
chromium Posted December 16, 2011 Author Posted December 16, 2011 Ok let me just say that what I need is the elevation map... than... I could take weeks :S. If I finish it before blowing my graphic card I'll post here :P (is it possible? or it's copyrighted?) _Heater_ Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 it is possible... I think... Simulatori: DCS A-10C II Warthog - DCS F/A-18C Hornet - DCS F-16C - VRS F/A-18E - HOTAS: TM Warthog - Cougar \ HP Reverb G2 \ WinWing Panels Tally: I see the degenerate commie who wants to ruin our day.
Moa Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 IIRC you can get an height map by carefully looking at the scripts that come with TacView. When TacView installs it extracts terrain elevation data from the game and writes it to a file so it can render it. You could do the same thing and render the terrain contours, although you'd then have some extra work adding in names for airbases etc. Obviously this is a lot of work, but it is possible to do.
