trexmkii Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Hey, I'm a newbie to this sim and I'm just now starting to figure it out. I'm trying to figure something out: In the landing training mission, I'm told to set the course to 130 on my HSI for the approach to Batumi airfield. Why 130?? Where is this number displayed and how do I know what course to set when I'm flying into a different airport or flying in from a different direction?
Jona33 Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 130 is the course for the runway you will land on. The HSI is the large compass instrument on the front dash, I believe there's a knob in the corner that you can adjust to set 130. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
trexmkii Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 Yes, but how do I know the course for a different runway? If i want to land somewhere else, how will I know what course to set??
SmokeyTheLung Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 You should check out some of the excellent airfield diagrams that other users have made. Also, the Divert page in the CDU will give you airfield info. So will the f10 map for that matter System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
trexmkii Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 The f10 map is a good idea... But on the CDU Divert page, after selecting the airport I wish to land at, I can't find a course for the runway anywhere...
Jona33 Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 The f10 map is a good idea... But on the CDU Divert page, after selecting the airport I wish to land at, I can't find a course for the runway anywhere... It should read RWY 31 13 (Batumi this is ) or something similar. BTW add a 0 to the end of runway numbers for the heading. 13 is heading 130 just in case you didn't already work that out. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
Speedbrake Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 When you make the "Inbound" radio call to #5 ATC and the base you are landing at, the controller will tell you which runway they are currently using. Just add a zero to the two numbers he gives you.
zyph3r Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 As above, the ATC will give you the runway he wants you to land on, example 31, add a zero and you got a heading 310, turn the knob on the HSI to 310, the arrow of the HSI will show you how the runway is aligned. Ex if the big arrow points straight ahead you know the runway is in front of you, to the left- yeah the runway is to the left of you and so on...
