Well I wanted to model the DCS BS main panel for a simpit (though AMR just declared bankrupty :( Hello unemployment). I finally got around to modeling it in sketchup. What do you guys think?

I did not texture it because I was only designing a panel.

Looks like a good start. A couple notes. You missed holes for the master caution and rotor limit indicators. Also you're gauge holes on the left side look to close to the ADI and HSI, that will be very hard to make, might want to look at spacing that out a little more. Lastly you need a hole for the landing gear panel as well.

Thanks Gadroc. I do believe the gagues next to the HSI and ADI are to scale though. But your right that might be difficult to make. I did have a template i was working off of. Maybe you can check it for errors? You have a lot more experience and skill than I do at this sort of thing. Not bad for a first attempt though right?

Here is the template I used.

Maybee the template was off? Or maybee I made some mistakes. This is the first time I have attempted to model a pre existing item. I am sure there are mistakes. I would appreciate any help.

Thanks QuickSilver

Well I found the plans for this and remodeled it down to the millimeter. Here is the second version.

Things still to do

Master Caution

Rotor Limit Indicators

Hole for Landing Gear Panel.

(Thanks Gadroc)

I would appreciate it if anybody can post the plans for these. Down to the millimeter if you please.

When I am done I will post the actual file itself for anyone wanting to build a front panel.

Don't forget to plan how you are going to use it. If you put a monitor behind there for your gauges, the clock will be too low and the monitor will stick out below the cutaway for your left leg. Disregard if you are using analog gauges. Triggerhappy has plans down to the milimeter. Will find it for you.

THe IP drawing is pretty accurate but some others aren't.

Trigger did not put those in his design. Thats why I need the measurements for them. Where did trigger GET those measurements anyway??

Here is a pic of the left hand side of the center panel which may help. Also I've attached a picture of the full CP. To get dimensions take something you know the size of (ABRIS screen is 10.4 4x3 screen if I remember correctly) and extrapolate what size other things are relative to it.

Looks good, I agree with everyone else, in that your ADI and HSI are far too close to your other gauges, especially if you are making analog gauges.

I don't know how TriggerHappy did his, but I just sort of eye balled mine, alot of revisions to find something ergonomic.

Rokmonkey care to post yours. I would be interested in seeing it. I will agree that maybe the gauges are too close to the HSI and ADI but that is how the plans showed them. I wouldn't mind someone double checking my work. Maybe I missed something but I do not think so. I was very thorough. If you examine the pics Gadroc posted they seem close together there as well.

I just did a little comparison myself. Turns out that triggers plans, while very good, do not actually match the real Ka-50 front panel layout. What makes this obvious is comparing the gauge location to the leg cut outs. I don't suppose anybody has the real life dimensions.

As a side note, though not 100 percent accurate, I think trigger did a great job.

Sure I would love to see it.

Does it use real life dimensions?

If by real life, you mean the actual KA-50 Cockpit dimensions, then no. I just sat down in my chair with a tape measure, and guesstimated what a good overall size would be, comfort wise. Then fit all the components necessary onto the board.

Honestly, do not get hung up on having real dimensions, I don't know of anyone here or elsewhere having actual cockpit dimensions of the KA-50 or A-10C. And in reality, it will probably be either too small or too large for your needs as a simpit. Get it to look right, relative locations of gauges, panels etc and make it comfortable, that's more important IMHO.

This is my Ka-50 pit at the moment, im using two 17 inches screen to display the gauges. I didn't draw/cut the button holes and the hole for the panel in the center, below the shkval and the abris, because I didn't draw those panels yet. I have modified the position of the indicator a bit to fit within those 2 screen and the screen do not stickout in the leg space.

Those are the dimension I guestimated for my pit:

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but M0jo, is that an X52 that you modified there? If so, got any info on it, looks cool.

Yes, it's a Saitek X52 mounted on a Microsoft ForceFeedback 2. The MFFB2 have also been modified with 2 Hall effect sensor. The brake lever is connected to a potentiometer and a return spring underneath.

This is an older picture without the brake lever and the force feedback pedals:
