Triggers for recon and dynamic artillery support

Currently it's hard to make proper recon missions as there's no way to check if the player has actually found something or is just flying in the neighborhood without a clue. Maybe it could be possible to make a trigger rule to check if markpoint, waypoint, PVI-800 waypoint or targetpoint or datalink point is inside a trigger zone. The rule would check all of the points (or maybe only markpoints and user created waypoints in the case of A-10) stored in the aircrafts systems if any of them happen to be inside the assigned trigger zone and return true if at least one of them is. The rule could be applied to only player and client aircrafts. It should be possible to also restrict the rule to apply to only one certain client slot or all of the clients of certain coalition.

 

More ambitious wish is to have the possibility to request artillery fire mission to your currently selected PVI-800 target point or markpoint in A-10. This would also need a task for artillery units to act as on-call fire support and some unit to act as a command center that the player would contact in similar fashion as to JTAC. You should be able to determine the tube and ammo count to be used for the mission and the shooting method depending if the target is moving or stationary. For stationary targets you could assign the time for first rounds landing on the target or asap. If the target is moving the firing unit would load their guns and aim to the target but not fire and tell the player how long it takes for the rounds to fly to the target so that the player can determine how much lead he needs. After this player can either change the aimpoint which leads to the firing unit adjusting aim and reporting new flight time or give the order to fire.

 

It's good to get dynamic artillery with Combined arms and I really wish there would be some functionality to make it possible to shoot accurate and timely fire missions also on moving targets in a fashion described above. But it would be nice to have dynamic artillery also in single player and in multiplayer without the need for someone to act as ground commander instead of flying.

Slmod gives you the ability to call in airstrike on co-ordinates (soon) but it would be nice for artillery to have this as well. The recon thing would be nice as well. Can the litening take recon pictures? Would be nice to see these and use them in another mission.

As for the recon, one of the campaign missions Shore 04 (I think) had a recon mission that required the player to use F10 other commands to define what they "saw". Speed does have LOS as part of Slmod, I wonder if information on where the targeting pods is part of lua...

 

As for arty, perhaps once Combined Arms comes out more triggers might be added to allow for more flexibility. I hope the scripting capability to target specific groups comes back.
