Hey,

I noticed that in BS2 I'm not able to use ground power when starting from ramp. When I start the mission I used to press "\" and tell the ground crew to turn on the power as the first thing I did (door is still open at this point and engines nor apu are running). But I got no response from them. I even tried to turn on batteries and turn on intercom switch and then turn the radio selector knob to Grnd crew posision (but I shouldn't need to do that since the engines are not running so they should be able to hear me fine without the intercom, right?) but no luck. I know I can start the engines and everything on batteries just fine but I was just wondering why this isnt working anymore.

edit : I forgot to mention that I tried this even with easy comm and it didnt work either.

edit2 : I got the newest (1.1.1.1) version

One more unrelated question : I noticed that before takeoff all other choppers always taxi to runway first. Is this how it's done in RL ? I always assumed that since helis can take off vertically they just take right off from their place.

edit3 : I added a trk file

groundpower.trk

How are you going to keep things organized if things just take off wherever they happen to be? ;) Helicopters without wheels will commonly perform a "hover-taxi", that is, they are technically airborne, but fly slowly and just above the ground along the taxiways to the runway.

Think of it like this: a HUMVEE can drive just fine in rough terrain, but unless something really dramatic happens you tend to stay on the road anyhow, it's safer.

Right, that makes sense. Anyway, what about the ground power problem ? I added a trk file so you can see what am I doing.

You do have ground vehicles at the airbase right. If you're at a FARP you need an actual GPU unit.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

At busier airfields with both fixed wing and helo traffic, such as Kandahar in my experience, helos will utilize the parallel taxiways and fixed will, of course, use the runways. I have also seen at many civilian airports, the tower will have helo traffic land to a parallel runway to keep the runway available for any fixed wing traffic.

Only time I've seen helos using runways is when there is no traffic other than helo traffic, or during an emergency.

Oh right! When I added GPU on Ural it works now. You see I usualy fly my own missions (love the mission editor) but I wasn't aware that you need to add your own ground crew even at airports. The weird thing is that I also got A10C and it works there without having to add there a mobile GPU. Both are 1.1.1.1 version. And im pretty sure it worked before in BS as well.

At an airfield: You need any random ground units to make the airfield on your side. These don't matter what type and you will get rearm.

At a FARP: You need the right ground units for the ground crew within 150m. Eg, for ground power a GPU.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

Oh, okay. Thanks.
