Yeah so two suggestions from someone who loves DCS but new to the series.... (appologies if covered elsewhere).

1. A flight recorder application or feature that logs flight time regardless of profiles, single player and multiplayer experience. Essentially something that gives new pilots a feeling of progress and something they can demonstrate to others e.g. virtual flying wings.

2. Skining of the aircraft pattern or texture with a significant amount of Yellow for novice pilots. This was inspired by a recent trip and subsequent education to Duxford, Cambs UK. :book:

I like idea #1. Just curious as to the reasoning behind #2? I mean that respectfully too, just curious of the purpose.

My Specs

Asus Maximus Hero IX Z270

i7 7700k @ 4.7GHz

32GB G.SKILL TridentZ 3700MHz DDR4

EVGA RTX 2080Ti

Samsung 960 Evo 1TB M.2 NVME SSD

EVGA SuperNOVA 1200 P2

Acer XB270HU 144Hz @ 1440p (IPS)

Valve Index

OOOOhhh, I wish I had the Alpha of a Hornet!

#2 is point of realism, particularly in Multi-player. The use of Yellow is to indicate to other pilots that you are a novice and that there is a reasonable chance of collision, crashing missue of lights, flares or weapons essentially putting you at risk by being in close proximity.

No, it isn't. It would be very unrealistic in fact.

That said, if you want a yellow training skin, make one and then release it via the file exchange.

I'm only going on what the tour guide at Duxford said, citing the example of the yellow painted belly and strips on the side of a plane on display in the main Air Space exhibition.

Perhaps it is something that used to be practiced by the RAF but no longer... I don't know I don't claim to be an expert on such things, but the principle of identifying yourself to others in MP or training as a novice pilot seems reasonable.

In years gone by yes. Today, no. IRL the fact that you're flying a trainer aircraft with an instructor is indication enough that you're learning. ;)

A skin wouldn't really help that much in MP as you'd only be able to see it when at close range anyway. A better solution would be that people actually joined a voice comms servers and spoke to each other.

But as I said, anyone can create a skin and release it.
