Kite Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Hi .. during last days we are trying BS2 afac for a10. Giving the coordinates to our friend on A10 we find that there is a difference of some meters between our coordinates and theirs. Is this only because we have less decimal precisions coordinates than them or we are doing something wrong? We do like this with BS. 1. Lock target with shkval . 2. Send mem in Data link. 3. in abris move cursor on the "targeted data link symbol" and read coordinates With this coordinates the a10 pilot should search an area about 10-20 meters around the point we gave. Easy , no problem , but maybe there is something extremely precise we are missing. Is this correct? Thanks Kite
Nobody96 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Why don't you use the following procedure: 1. Set PVI-800 to edit mode 2. Press NAV/TGT button followed by a number between 1-6 3. Lock target 4. Press designate target/uncage shkval button 5. Read the coordinates to your fellow A-10 pilot or save them And don't forget to set the INU/Update switch to update so long Mathias My System: Intel Core i7-4770K, Asus ROG Strix RX480 O8G, 24GB Ram
Kite Posted January 30, 2012 Author Posted January 30, 2012 didn't know this. That is great. But this should be less precise also of abris. PVI800 have less decimal precision also from abris. Correct?
Nobody96 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 It shouldn't have a lesser precision than your ABRIS method because the ABRIS gets the data from the Shkval the same way. An A-10 Pilot won't be able to throw a bomb on a waypoint he entered during the "9-line" but he will find the target in close proximity to the entered waypoint. It you, at a Shark pilot are entering target coordinates in your PVI-800, be advised that there is a bug in the height calculation that prevents you from slewing your shkval at the target coordinates. so long Mathias My System: Intel Core i7-4770K, Asus ROG Strix RX480 O8G, 24GB Ram
Karon Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Check if you have set the correct latlong representation: Abris default is XXX°YY'ZZ" (degrees, minutes and seconds) but the PVI is XXX°YY.YY' (degrees, minutes and decimals) If I remember well, A-10 should be using the second format. So if you are using the ABRIS to determine a target location, be sure to switch to the correct format (setup→format→units, something like this - check the manual). Just as information - if you have locked a target with the Shkval you can get its coordinates using the PVI-800 (which has, however, fewer numbers than the ABRIS). To do this use the TGT PNT function of the PVI set in EDIT mode. Again, check the manual. Kite Posted January 30, 2012 Author Posted January 30, 2012 OK . I will switch to the PVI800 method. Quicker than moving cursor on abris finding coordinates.. Just curious... red devil.. what is the difference between degrees minutes and seconds... degrees minutes and decimals? Thanks all..
winz Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 The difference is that seconds are in 0-60range and decimals are in .0-.99 range, so a conversion is required. i.e: 45'15'' = 45.25' 45'30'' = 45.5' 45'45'' = 44.75' The Valley A-10C Version Revanche for FC 3
