PlainSight Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 I've noticed that sometimes TGP goes crazy when I turn sharply from recon to attack run position. I fly perpendicular to the target, but when i turn/roll 90 degree towards it, 20-30 degrees down i loose my SPI, because tgp rolls out of limits. It's like it can't follow the planes motion in the turn phase. It's frustrating, because i have to abort my gun run AND find the target again. See this clip at exactly 18:55 min in, to see the maneuver. Am i making too agressive turns or what? Thanks [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Speed Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 (edited) Learn to fly within the limits of the TGP's gimbals and FOR (field of regard). Keep in mind the targeting pod is a camera on a set of gimbals. Sometimes the gimbals run up against limits- it can only rotate so much, and it has a "hole" (about straight ahead) where small amounts of displacement may require it to roll a lot. Try not to run up against the gimbal limits. If you do, and you want to keep your TGP's aimpoint, first try to unwind the targeting pod by doing a roll or two in the opposite direction than the direction you think the TGP is at gimbal limits in. That doesn't always work, for whatever reason, and if it doesn't, try roll till you get the TGP back on target, give it a quick mark point (TMS right short with the TGP as SOI) then with the TGP SOI, hit china hat aft short. This will reset the TGP to "home" position. Then, go into markpoint mode, select the appropriate mark point, set that mark point SPI, then slew TGP to SPI. Now you're back to where you started, but without the TGP all wound up against its gimbal limits. Can anyone think of an easier way to do this? I can't. KLR Rico Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 ^^ That's what I have to do... I know the TGP displays a "gimbal roll" warning with an arrow when it's near/at the limit, but I haven't figured if you have to roll into the arrow, or away. Rolling the A/C never seems to work for me, I usually end up having to do the boresight/markpoint method. i5-4670K@4.5GHz / 16 GB RAM / SSD / GTX1080 Rift CV1 / G-seat / modded FFB HOTAS
PlainSight Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Yeah, i guess the markpoints are the best solution. Mark the target and then slave TGP to the markpoint. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
