BullsEye Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Is clear that lock on is cpu-limited....i saw an article where 2x7800GTX in SLI configuration score always 30FPS in different graphic configuration (from 1024x768 to 1600x1280 and from zero filter to full filter AA and FSA) What i would like to know is if a AMD64 3200+ (venice core) could be a good starting point for a new pc. What do you think? is better to buy a Intel P4?
britgliderpilot Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 It is very rare that a P4 would be better than an AMD 64 for gaming - I don't think it happens at any point in the price/speed range ;) It would be preferable to start at higher speeds than 3.2GHz - but if you must, I have a brand new P4 3.2 you have have cheap if you're in the UK or Yurp. Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 if its a pentium d, then i take it, cuz i want a pentium to blow stuff up with, and sadly 2 of my finest 200mhz and 166mhz aint gonna do it. i really want one to just mess with it and all that crap... so let it be mine if its a D
hitman Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 There is this computer store a few blocks away from me, sells brand new computer parts for cheap as hell prices. They have an AMD 64 4000 for only 300 bucks and comes with an nforce4 board with 1 pci-ex16 and 1 pci-e x1 and 6 pci slots. Figure with their prices I can build a new gaming computer for 850 bucks (including 2 6600 gts), 2x160 gb Sata HDs, 2 200 gb Ata HDs, 2 gigs pc3200 corsair, and a 600 watt Silenx psu. Freakin' cheap.

FiringSquad also has reviewed an 7800Sli rig w/ LOMAC and can see a definite increase in performance through the different cards. The review with the cpu limited benchmark never says how they ran LOMAC to get their score. If they populated the evironment with enough AI vehicles it would limit the performance of the game, but it would in any game. Add enough vehicles to F4 and you will cpu limit the benchmark.
