x52 i bought just got here. been setting up commands in the SST software, finally got enough configured for basic functionality (programmed all the ins cyclic and ins collective controls in the sst to output keyboard commands for the game) but either the SST is not outputting, or the game is overriding the outputs and using it's own bindings, even though i cleared everything except the axis.

any help appreciated

Did you plug in the x52 before you ran the driver install program?

If you did that usually causes problems, and uninstalling the drivers and fixing it is actually harder than you'd think. I had the same problem when I first got my x52 and had to follow the instructions from Saitek to properly remove them.

Here they are in case you need them.

1. Unplug your X52 from the computer

2. Uninstall the driver

3. Uninstall the SST programming software

4. Delete the Saitek folders from the following paths :

C:\Program Files

C:\Windows\Temp

5. Delete Saitek registry entries:

-Press and hold the Windows key on your keyboard and then press the letter R. This will open the Run box. Type regedit and then click ok.

The Registry Editor will have a list of folders on the left hand side. Go down into the following folders in order by clicking the + next to the folder name.

+HKEY_CURRENT_USER

+System

+CurrentControlSet

+Control

+Media Properties

+Private Properties

+Direct Input

Inside Direct Input delete any entry inside that begins VID_06A3.

6. Reboot

7. Install the latest drivers and DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR X52 until the install program ASKS you to or you will have to redo this whole process.

Good luck!

right, after a few hours of configuring and testing, holy ****, i can't believe i ever flew without one. Gonna take me a bit to get used to the way the stick feels, but wow, this this is astoundingly useful. This is going to open up a whole new level of simulation to me.

Already adapted the throttle bank to fit on my tripod beside the chair, fortunately the drawer are at exactly the right height to pop one open and put a plank across it for the cyclic. now i just need to figure out a good head-tracking solution and i'll be set up to sim with the pros! (may still take a while practicing before i stand a chance against any though :p)

My recommendation is to ditch SST altogether. It is fiddly, unpredictable and unreliable.

If you backup and delete Sai*.pr0 from your windows\system32 folder. Buttons such as the mouse click and wheel become available as joystick buttons.

The use of modifiers in DCS makes for more flexible multi-function programming of the buttons - similar to the SAITEK Mode implementation but more flexible.

In the controller properties / settings, you can disable clutch mode so that the i button is now available as a normal joystick button.

Finally, you can use the Helios software for yet more flexibility. For example, I don't like the fact that all input to the cockpit is toggling. When I assigned the master arm switch to my joystick toggle, I always had to check what positiont he switch is actually in by looking at it. With Helios, you can interface directly with the game and set your toggles to behave like the switch. You can set it so that when you push your jostick toggle up, master arm is set to on, even if it is already; when you push your joystick toggle down, it is set to safe, even if it is already safe. That way, you can set switch positions based on feel, just like the real switches and without looking at them. I have set master arm on my mode switch. When it is red, it's armed, when blue, not armed.

I'm planning to crack open the throttle housing of my X52 and insert some more toggle switches.

The main problem you will have in this game is not having enough buttons and switches on your stick!

I use this one, which has most things programmed in game. I've changed a few, but use it as is for the most part. For example, I use the hat switch on the stick for starting and stopping my countermeasure program.

The big thing I changed though was to use this profile in SST which only has the thumb stick on the throttle as slew. It says A-10, but it works great for Black Shark. I found trying to slew the SHKVAL on the stick much to difficult while trying to trim and fly.

So in conclusion, I do majority of the programming in game, and add JackBauer profile to change the SHKVAL slew to the thumbstick. I use TrackIR as well, so that may change your options.
