pollock56th Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I plan on ordering tonight either the 2gb hd6970 or the 6870 2gb. The 6970 is almost double the price so I am leaning towards the 6870. I currently use 3 19 LCD matched monitors in eyefinity mode my resolution is at 3840 x 1024 which is relatively tame these days. Running off an hd5850. I am trading my old system to a full upgrade with a 2500k CPU and 16 gigs of ram. the plan is to add a 4th LCD or 2 USB small ones for mfd in the future. what are your results 6870 users. Specs. MB Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN 3, CPU i5-2500K @ 3.3Ghz, RAM Corsair XMS3 16 Gig, GA Diamond ATI Radeon he 6950 2gig, PSU Corsair GS 800 watt, Display 3 19" Samsung 930b eyefinity. Controls TM Warthog, TM mfp, Saitek combat pedals, Track IR 5 pro clip led.
Lallan Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I would not recommend for you to get ATI/AMD at this time! I have a 6870 and play A-10C and also FSX, my CPU is great but I would not get a 6870 it is not as good as the 6950 or 6970. Just because it states 2GB of graphics memory, does not necessarily mean that it is going to run faster :P I would look more at the bit rate, as Nvidia last gene cards laughed at ATI/AMD. If you can wait till the new Nvidia cards come out. If you can not keep yourself contempt for that long :P then I would get a 560ti or even two of them if you can stretch your budget by that much. Also one last thing Intel is on the verge of releasing there new Ivy bridge which has been overclocked to 7GHZ by some fanatics!!! (I do not know all the info about the overclock other than the fact there was some liquid nitrogen involved) But be patient and wait till the new stuff comes out and you will thank me later  "Too Tall" SQ 213 i7 870 / 8GB RAM 1333MHz / 2x500Gb Hard Drives @7200 RPM / Windows 7 64 bit / ATI Sapphire 6870 / Asus P7P55D-E / NZXT Phantom Case/ Corsair H80 liquid and fan cooler. Lallan Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I agree with this guy totally, man. I upgraded my PC this year, and the only thing I'm waiting on is the GTX 680. I'm still using a 3 almost 4 year old 4870x2 video card and will never buy ATI or AMD again - yeah, it sucks that bad. Wait it out like I am - you'll thank us both. I think that it is a bit harsh to say that ATI/AMD sucks. Yes they do not perform as well as Nvidia but that is because Nvidia is more expensive, if you are running more that 1 monitor you get something like a 560ti and run games of that and even get something like a 450 and run your other apps for sims off that. But like I said in my original comment, JUST WAIT till the newest gene comes out :P "Too Tall" SQ 213 i7 870 / 8GB RAM 1333MHz / 2x500Gb Hard Drives @7200 RPM / Windows 7 64 bit / ATI Sapphire 6870 / Asus P7P55D-E / NZXT Phantom Case/ Corsair H80 liquid and fan cooler. pollock56th Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 I went with a diamond hd6950 2gb paid 300. I figured it was the way to go because locally and on the internet they seem to have disappeared over the weekend. Specs. PoleCat Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Both AMD and Nvidia make excellent graphics cards. The crown for performance moves back and forth between them as it should. Neither is better only different. I use both for different reasons. Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/
