Hi guys, Im new to soviet simulations so please have a little understanding.I have noticed that once in the final approach for landing, say about an eighth of a mile from the runway,a tone goes off....it's not a beep-beep,its more like a intermitent tone (I mostly fly the SU-33 and SU-27).Does anyone know what this means?

Im not 100 % sure if my answer is correct, but i would say that beeping indicates that your aprotiching the ILS beakon, or your passing it. Something along those lines anyway

Yep - there are beacons set along the line of the runway to give an audio signal at a certain distance from threshold.

There should in fact be two sets of beeps - one close in, one far out. I think they've correctly modelled the runways with approach over the sea to only have the one close in . . . . ;)

Whether this means the distance indicator in the HUD is an incorrect feature or not is anyones guess.

NY3D - you have kinda answered your own question ! The answer is that when you are on finals, there is a beeping tone to tell you you are distance "x" from the runway. :)

Actually there are two (outer marker - 2.5 nm and inner marker - 0.75 nm).

Try a landing in low cloud / fog and you will appreciate much more the outer and inner marker tones.

Airfields are accurately modelled, if you approach over the water to the runway there is either no markers at all (eg Novoriyssk) or only an inner marker (eg Gaudata). The airfield modelling is so well done that if your ILS approach is from the opposite direction (make Lockon do this by setting up a big headwind at ground level along the runway direction) then you do have both the markers for those airfields from a landward direction. Try it yourself for Saki and Gaudata. Also for nighttime landings then the searchlight trucks will light up the correct end of the runway too (except Saki and Simpheropol for some reason they dont have searchlights).

Sometimes i hear those tones just after takeoff, out to about 2 miles from the runway. I used to think it was a warning tone and I was checking all my warning lights.

I dont think I shoud be hearing them on takeoff. And I don't have NAV mode set to landing when I'm taking off just in case anyone asks.

Just turn the MB audio off on your audio panel. DOH! I guess you can't do that in most sims. If you fly over it at a low enough altitude, your MB receiver will pick it up. ;)
