msalama Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Hiya peeps, who's on the ball as regards recent NVidia drivers for the GTX580? I'm using v285.62 & am basically very happy with it, but still wonder whether there're even better performers out there ATM. Any thoughts? The DCS Mi-8MTV2. Depth Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 The newest stable WHQL driver is the 301.10 version, and I'm running the beta 301.24. I love the FXAA thing they've been working on, powerful anti-aliasing but without the performance hit [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
msalama Posted April 22, 2012 Author Posted April 22, 2012 Yup, looks good! Just read the release notes & am downloading now. Thanks for the tip mate :) The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
Gunnergolly Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 When updating Nvidia drivers is it best if you remove the old ones first, boot the machine up in Safe mode and then use driver sweep ?. I installed my EVGA 580 yesterday and noticed that when i installed a newer driver (the installer failed on the first attempt) it automatically removed the first driver and then installed the newer one. Have been a long time AMD user and have always used Safe mode/Driver sweeper when upgrading my drivers. I run BS2/A-10C with the AA & AF on application controlled in the Nvidia settings panel, do i just select FXAA as "On" and this somehow gives better/more efficient performance within DCS ???... That's the way I've always upgraded them, and I can't remember having suffered a hiccup ever. You should disable the in-game AA and then try FXAA on its own. I played around with it for an hour or so, but got horrible shimmers I couldn't get rid of so it was back to conventional AA for me... Bodo Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Unless changing cards, I don't see anything wrong with just selecting the installs you need in the nvidia driver setup wizard and ticking clean install. Don't think the hassle of safemode/driiver sweep is that necessary in all honesty, given a typical update of drivers. I'd recommend ticking clean install every time, though. I'm trying the 296 drivers from nvidia for my 560ti. I'll wait on the next set when it's tested. Never seemed to have much joy with guru 3d forceware drivers and as for beta ones, well never really thought about it.
