Canopy release handle

Hi there

 

Is the canopy supposed to be blown of when I pull the handle on ground? As I understand it, it should only be released so the air stream pulls it away while flying but since there is not enough wind to blow it away it should stay in position while I am on the ground. If there are some explosives in place to throw it off even when parking, why is there a point in the checklist for the canopy interlocking?

I am also curious about this. It appears that there are explosives... I didn't think there were any on this plane.

According to the P-51 Pilot Training Manual:

The emergency release for the canopy is the long red handle on your right, above the oxygen controls. When you pull this handle, the entire canopy flies off. The handle is safetied with light safety wire.

From the Manual:

 

CANOPY EMERGENCY RELEASE HANDLE:

 

The red Canopy Emergency Release handle is located just ahead of the Canopy Handcrank. The handle is operated by pulling toward the pilot. This results in a mechanical release of the latches holding the canopy and permits the slip stream to carry the canopy clear of the aircraft.

 

So the explosion animation might indeed a (hopefully temporary) quirk.

Thanks for the explanation! I know it's just in Beta but I still wanted to ask.
