icetbag Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Had a dabble on MP at the weekend and found the plane handles completely differently to the way it did on the SP side (training missions, free flight). I don't have any assistance on, I turned all that off as soon as I installed the sim. The plane handled so alien that I thought my joystick axis settings had screwed up so went back to a SP free flight and everything was back to how I remembered it (not been back on MP since due to lack of time). The plane was hard to fly level (required constant input), I checked the trim settings and all were neutral. When I tried to roll the plane it was noticeably twitchy and wanted to barrell roll me into the ground (again requiring more input than Im used to in SP free flight)....I checked my IAS, RPM and Manifold Pressure to see if I was overspeeding or stalling and I wasnt. Overall, it was a lot more demanding trying to stop myself spinning into the ground - I died 3 times in the quick MP session - all from my inability to keep the kite in the air (didnt get shot down once ;) ...though I was being chased in all 3 cases lol ). It's as if the flight model was different (I definiately have no aids enabled in the options). I went back to SP free flight and it was easier to fly (less of a fight with the controls). Anyone else had this?
Opoch Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 First of all, let me just say that I have no idea. Though I wouldn't think it'd be any different. Don't own the pony... Check your ping?
flightace37 Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 It's possible that network issues might cause the aircraft to behave differently, but have you checked for differences in the fuel and weapons choices? There is a very pronounced difference between flying a normally fueled Mustang and one that has the auxiliary tank topped off. There's also a huge change in flight dynamics when you're carrying stores. - WH_Mouse
LeadTurn_SD Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 1+ for fuel load as the culprit. With nearly full tanks, the Mustang is a VERY different plane, compared to with 50% fuel. Best wishes.
icetbag Posted May 9, 2012 Author Posted May 9, 2012 Cheers guys, I didnt think of fuel load at the time so will look into it.
Speed Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 (edited) It could have been the fuel, but I think a more likely culprit was takeoff/rudder assistance, or flight model settings. If the mission was created and saved on a computer that had takeoff assistance disabled, for example, all clients will be forced to fly with takeoff assistance disabled. Same goes for other settings. So if you have some simplified flight model settings enabled in single player without realizing it, you could now be having full realism settings forced on you in multiplayer much to your surprise. Obviously Icetbag, you need to check your settings in single player. Click the "options" button in the single player menu, then make sure that all gameplay settings are set to realistic. Then click the "Special" tab. Make sure that rudder assistance is disabled, and takeoff assistance is at 0%. leafer Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 The server I was on just now sure didn't feel like I had any assist. Crashed twice on take off and landing. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
icetbag Posted May 9, 2012 Author Posted May 9, 2012 Next chance I get (weekend) I'll look at the options again, but Im pretty sure it is on realistic settings without any assistance. Cheers
Invisibull Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 If the mission was created and saved on a computer that had takeoff assistance disabled, for example, all clients will be forced to fly with takeoff assistance disabled. I have found this to not be the case. I've had takeoff assistance at 0% from jump, but clients joining my server, flying in missions i created, haven't had their takeoff assistance settings affected at all.
