Hi All,

Just wanted some friendly advise before I starting going and changing everything. I recently bought a new PC - GTX 680, I7 - 3930 with 16 Gb RAM. It has a 1Tb SATA 3 disk which is a bottle neck but otherwise I can run everything on ultra and it runs great.

Installed BS 1.2 and it runs perfectly - Minimum of 60fps with everything going on. Really goes well.

Installed BS2 - settings to high and I only get 25 fps on average on high settings. Turned distance down, shadows on low, no mirrors and reduced the maxfps and it seemed to help a little but I get massive stutters as well. Tried playing with the swap file - i.e removing it completely as some suggested but it was no help. I do have onboard sound and have not tried disabling it so will do that when I get home.

2 Questions -

Is this just the performance I can expect in BS2? Will any amount of tinkering not produce a miracle of the 20 extra FPS I was expecting?

Also, will A10 run faster than BS2 - Allot of posts here indicate it does and I bought this machine specifically for these sims.

Its a new machine with No AV, No other apps installed - Windows 7 x64.

I am running at 1900 x 1200. I didn't expect to have to turn all the shadows off etc as well. It does stutter much worse in stormy conditions as well. It seems to be running fast then the FPS drops to 2 or 4 then goes back to normal.

I know there has been lots of posts about this and I just wanted realistic expectations before I tinker to death :)

Thanks

James

BS2 uses a new graphic engine, as well as higher details by default.

Btw, you might find a summary of some tuning posts in this thread, post #5

'Green' SATA disks can be slow - you may want to set your PC power configuration to "Full Power", which may allow the disk to use more power if it supports it.

Other than that I don't have that many tips to share - except the standard "set water to low" - not sure if it applies to BS2 (it was an old trick in BS1).

EDIT: Just noticed, we have somewhat similar PC specs, your CPU may clock a bit higher than mine, my disks are quicker (raid 0).

But disks only affect loading times - not FPS.

You know I went home last night and turned AA off completely and the other AA setting, tree shadows off as well. Everything else is set to high and it now runs around 60 frames.

Just what I wanted, looks so good now I can really enjoy it!

thanks

Be sure to set energy management to "maximum performance" in Nvidia drivers, also check Windows power plan (there is something in advanced setting about PCI-E which should be off.

I have a GTX 680, i5 2500K@4,4 and 8 gigs of ram and only SATA drives and I run this sim maxed out and never fall below 30FPS with @45 in cockpit most of the time and above 60 outside. So you hardware is definitely not the issue.
