Corrigan Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 As title -- the cannon sounds (slightly) differently when fired depending on if the nose is pointed towards the ground or up. Is this intended? I can't think of any real mechanism to produce this. Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
EtherealN Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Have you compared for situations where on both sides of the "test" you are keeping a steady speed? As in, remove the fact that in a dive you'll typically accelerate, and in a climb you'll typically decelerate. effte Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Acceleration doppler? That's new. ;) ----- Introduction to UTM/MGRS - Trying to get your head around what trim is, how it works and how to use it? - DCS helos vs the real world.
Corrigan Posted May 18, 2012 Author Posted May 18, 2012 Yeah, acceleration shouldn't matter in either case. Airspeed differences would give rise to a Doppler shift, if it were not for the fact that the observer (pilot's ears) is travelling at the same speed as the source (cannon). Corrigan Posted May 20, 2012 Author Posted May 20, 2012 I'm gonna bump this, because I've heard the same kind of swirling (almost flange-like) distortion from the engine. Sadly, I had no chance to record it, it only lasted for a few seconds. Pretty sure it's a game bug, I have no other sound issues. Anyone else notice this? EDIT: Strictly speaking this should be in the World section. Can a kind mod move it? Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
Megagoth1702 Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Sounds interesting, pun intended. Pls post video/track. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] System specs:2500k @ 4.6 GHz 8GB RAM HD7950 OC'd Win7 x64 Posting tracks to make your DCS better - attention bump incoming!
Corrigan Posted May 20, 2012 Author Posted May 20, 2012 I'll try frapsing it, hold on. Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
Corrigan Posted May 20, 2012 Author Posted May 20, 2012 Ok, tried reproducing it in a mission first, but there it sounded as it should (might have been coincidental, this doesn't happen all the time). Then I tried in instant action, the summer one. The video is attached. For some reason the sound is out of synch with the video, but that's just a Fraps issue. In the longer cannon burst, you'll notice the swirling, flanger-like effect. This was reproduced by firing the gun while pulling up sharply.cannon sound.rar Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
Megagoth1702 Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Sound normal to me... Go to dcs bla/sounds/effects/weapons/gau8cannonIN...
