Normally I'd post on Kegety's forums for this, but it concerns SoftTH not working for me with the DCS: World A-10 build 1.1.2.1

I've had softTh working for BS1 and I've used it in other games. The exact issue I get is that it doesn't seem to recognise the application DCS. I've used his version 2.something beta and also a 1.08 backwards but neither seem to show the prompt when I launch the game.

To be clear, I have three screens, one does use the internal graphics card and I can get multimonitor with good performance in A10 on 4240x1050 res with 2 17" and a 22" in the centre. I wanted to see if the performance would up with SoftTH so I set the middle screen as main, went full screen 1 monitor in options, dropped the dll in the same directory as both A10 exe's.

The sim loads up and will either fly or DCS will crash with no error message. No prompts from SoftTH. I was a bit concerned at the "requires WDDM driver" for the internal card, but figured if Win7 64bit had picked it up, the driver was fine.

I've tested 2.0 on world of tanks, and although it crashed in the game, the 3d loading screen displayed fine over 3 full screens in some whacky res and SoftTH did prompt for a standard config on launch. Just DCS doesn't.

Any ideas? i'm stumped.

No problems and no bugs with SoftTH 2.08bx64 here and DCS 1.1.2.1

Running catalyst 12.1.

and I use this base settings:

[main]

renderResolution=3840x1792

nonlocalFormat=RGB16D

keepComposition=1

smoothing=0

debugD3D=0

zClear=0

vsync=0

dllPathDXGI=auto

dllPathD3D11=auto

antialiasing=0

processAffinity=1

FOVForceHorizontal=0

FOVForceVertical=0

[debug]

compatibleIB=0

compatibleTex=0

compatibleVB=0

enableVBQuirk=1

The sim loads up and will either fly or DCS will crash with no error message.
This clearly sound like a faulty resolution configuration of Softth.

Dit you changed anything in the resolution settings of DCS world to match the Res of SoftTH?

>DCS can't recognize the available SoftTH Res by it self. you have to set it manually.

Fix: adding a custom resolution to in-game options.

Revisit this three threads to learn what you have to do that DCS runs in the same configuration like the pre-compiled default config.Softthconfig.

A simple step-by-step instruction how to set SoftTH up with a triple-head configuration:

Peter, thanks, I'm a big reader of your posts and hoped you would reply. I actually decided to try SoftTH based on your post about triplehead.

I set the res in the gui and adjusted the options.lua with the screen aspect you quoted in your triplehead post, set full screen, main display centre.

I'm going to check the resolution numbers again shortly.

Can I ask, does the popup on first run that creates the config occur when you first run the game/gui or launch the simulation from the gui?

Can I ask, does the popup on first run that creates the config occur when you first run the game/gui or launch the simulation from the gui?

And this is how it works for me :

I copy the d3d9.dll in the bin folder and the pop-up asks me to create a default one and also informs me which resolution is set in the config.SoftThconfig as soon I hit my DCS icon on the desktop -means when the GUI is launched.

Further:

a quote taken from the SoftTH 2.08 download post:

http://www.kegetys.fi/forum/index.php?topic=2123.0

A quick start:

- Place the d3d9.dll like before to the game dir

- Run the game. A dialog asking if you want to create a default config should pop up.

- Pick the new resolution in-game (or set it in game config)

And this is written in the SoftTH Readme:

To use, place the d3d9.dll into the game executable directory

(this is usually the directory where the game main EXE is located.

Sometimes the correct path can be a sub directory with DLL files

such as "bin"). When the game is run for the first time and

SoftTH is loaded a default configuration will be created. The

default config will span all detected monitors in the configuration

they are set in Windows desktop. You can open the created

config.SoftTHconfig file with a text editor to change settings.

If this fails for you - maybe this is what you are searching for:

>>> SoftTh 2.x configuration tool

Keep in mind to apply the fixes for the SoftTHconfig after you have set it up.

DCS related fixes for proper use with SoftTH 2.08b:

Fix: for bugged mission editor/Abris in DCS with SoftTH 2.08b:

Enable "quirk-mode" in the config.SoftTHconfig:

Quote:

[debug]

compatibleIB=0

compatibleTex=0

compatibleVB=0

enableVBQuirk=1<<<

this last line(enableVBQuirk=1) is missing when you use the configuration tool - so add it manually by using a editor!

And avoid using ZClear - as this will produce some shader bugs . Means :

Set "zClear = 0"! >>>Strange water texture overlaping bug... or something

And if you are using Helios (http://www.scsimulations.com/):

You have to use

"keepComposition=1" in the config.SoftTHconfig to switch Aero on while SoftTH works.

This will make it possible to have Helios rendered over DCS on secondary screens!

losing hair! Its the right directory but the prompt never appears. I tried another game and it worked. I created a profile and put it in, no change.

Ive updated to latest catalyst drivers, no change.

Rechecked the resolutions, they are correct, not sure about aspect ration though.

DCS game crashes when trying to load the display unless I give it the normal 1680x1050 res. Then it loads normally on one screen.

Its pretty much like the dll is never called. How is it called? I think DCS is crashing because its just not using SoftTH.

So back to first instruction...put it into the same folder as the launcher.exe and dcs.exe...check!

Don't know why it doesn't work to create a config in DCS - so please use the same config as that of "world of tanks" and place it in the bin-folder of DCS.

A default config.SoftTHconfig is system related - and not game related.

Sounds crazy...but again, works in wot, message immediately, triple screen.

Copy config to DCS and just nothing happens.

The gui comes up centre screen, perhaps i expect that. When launching a quick mission or anything else it goes to load, there is a brief flash of black on my centre and left screens (but not my right internal gfx screen) then the small popup cloud image whilst loading, then bam, DCS has stopped working.

Going to check how to calculate aspect ratio again somewhere. But honestly its like it never loaded and DCS is just saying, wait, you cant have 4240x1050 because thats not a full screen you can do on your machine (ie softTH didnt load)

http://www.silisoftware.com/tools/screen.php?aspect_ratio=1.60&image_width=4240&image_height=1050 says 4.04

I say 4.0380952380952 in options.

I'm lost now. I tried exclusions on antivirus, checked registry to see if another folder was referenced (had other installs in the past) doubled checked all values, proved it works in another application....I must be missing something stupid or my config is really unusual because something got messed up, but im pretty sure i rebuilt this box in the last 6 weeks and DCS was a clean install.

Can there be other options at stake you can think of?

Can't get any Half Life 2 mods or game working with Softh, does the same as DCS but when you add the config it remains single centre screen and then just becomes unstable. The full resolution isnt offered either.

America's army (unreal engine) is similar, just normal screen, no further options on screen res. Sits very slow on mouse and seems like its going to go pop any second.

Only other game on my harddrive now is MSFS and there is a listed issue with that.

So unfortunately I cannot demonstrate it working reliably on this setup :(

Probably some weird combination of things. I'd go thru the previous versions but that's nearly 6 hours spent when I had a reliable 3 windowed setup in 20 minutes on Sunday. Gutted actually.

Your options.lua looks legit , but the softth config seems to catch the wrong ID numbers - the ID number is always the windows display numbur minus 1 - so the [head_2] normally should be ID 3 instead 2...

I also made some performance/better view/bug related changes -in red-

If this will not work - try to disconnect monitor 3 completely.

Sorry, cant help you...

Seems Something isn't right/incompatible on your system (scratching head and beard ...dot.net installed and updated?...) - but as you said: WoT is running with this config you have posted..... hmm - please confirm this again.

and humour me once more :

Please visit this site in the exact same monitor config you have in mind when using DCS.

http://www.mechatronics4you.com/wp-content/uploads/tool/test.html

And please post the config.SoftTHconfig it spits out.

Also try to use it with DCS and SoftTH 2.08b x64

and also please tell me which CCC version you are using.

But...here is the big one.

DCS NEVER makes a log for SoftTH. Never seen a splash screen. I just don't think it runs at all and I dont know why. Even an error would be great!

OK here's the config from the mechatronics site

I'm going to swap the heads around in case its something bizzarre. This problem keeps dragging me back in. If i didnt see it working I'd have given up ages ago!

imidiatly update to CCC 12.1 (most stable/fasted I have found up to now)

This version you are using never was compatible with SoftTH if I recall correctly.

BTW: your config from the site only shows two monitors - I thought you want to run three....

Please visit this site in the exact same monitor config you have in mind when using DCS.

http://www.mechatronics4you.com/wp-content/uploads/tool/test.html

And please post the config.SoftTHconfig it spits out.

Yeah you asked me to troubleshoot on two earlier, I didnt revert, but I have now.

I've swapped around the heads so i can use the DVI port on the internal. I ran it but no different.

Will Update the catalyst however I downloaded it the other day from them so i dont know why it woudl be out of date :/

Updated the drivers...good call the web download is out of date by quite a bit.

So i've played with different combinations for a couple of hours and eventually reverted to how it started in first post. There is no difference.

To answer your question with the website config:

[main]

renderResolution=4240x1050

nonlocalFormat=RGB32

keepComposition=0

smoothing=1

debugD3D=0

zClear=0

vsync=0

tripleBuffer=0

screenshotFormat=jpg

dllPathD3D9=auto

dllPathDXGI=auto

dllPathD3D11=auto

[overrides]

forceResolution=0

antialiasing=0

processAffinity=0

FOVForceHorizontal=0

FOVForceVertical=0

[head_primary]

sourceRect=0,0,1280,1024

screenMode=1280x1024

[head_1]

devID=1

sourceRect=1280,0,1680,1050

transportResolution=1680x1050

transportMethod=nonlocal

noSync=0

fpsLimit=0

[head_2]

devID=2

sourceRect=2960,0,1280,1024

transportResolution=1280x1024

transportMethod=nonlocal

noSync=0

fpsLimit=0

Now there is something wrong between the config tool and the java ion the website. Have a look at the screen shot to see. The website detects the onboard ATI as the local AND the primary, AND it cannot be changed off the primary. The softth config tool detects it as I think it should be which is the inverse.

Hope this is useful to someone, even if there is no "resolution" to my issue. (apologies, the pun didnt even amuse me)

PS this weekend i will see if I can find another adapter to put in and remove the onboard. Other than that, i havent played for a few days so i'm going to go back to windowed mode.

To answer your question with the website config:

what interests me a little me more :D:

Did you upgrade your CCC to 12.1?

edit:

there is no hurry and you don't waste my time! :)

- it's just simple like this: I'm subscribed to this thread and I just get a note via iPhone every time someone answers - ....and only I decide when I response/answer.;)

You do it for you - not for me.

Good news Peter :thumbup:,

Also try to use it with DCS and SoftTH 2.08b x64

Bingo! Took a couple of hours until I tried that, its the only DLL that actually didnt crash the game.

First attempt never rendered, I just got a box the size of the splash screen. Second one I tweaked some config to this and it worked:

[main]

renderResolution=4240x1050

nonlocalFormat=RGB16

keepComposition=0

smoothing=1

debugD3D=0

zClear=1

vsync=0

tripleBuffer=0

screenshotFormat=jpg

dllPathD3D9=auto

dllPathDXGI=auto

dllPathD3D11=auto

[overrides]

forceResolution=0

antialiasing=0

processAffinity=1

FOVForceHorizontal=0

FOVForceVertical=0

[debug]

compatibleIB=1

compatibleTex=1

compatibleVB=1

[head_primary]

; borderA=0

; borderL=0

sourceRect=1280,0,1680,1050

screenMode=1680x1050

[head_1]

; borderA=0

; borderL=0

devID=1

sourceRect=0,0,1280,1024

destRect=0,0,1280,1024

transportResolution=1280x1024

transportMethod=local

noSync=0

fpsLimit=0

[head_2]

; borderA=0

; borderL=0

devID=2

sourceRect=2960,0,1280,1024

destRect=0,0,1280,1024

transportResolution=1280x1024

transportMethod=nonlocal16d

noSync=0

fpsLimit=0

I'm not sure what is in there, but having a feeling it's just the driver. I did kill CCC.exe also.

Now...i'm scared, but i really want to try the bezels and i'm scared to hell of touching something!!!!

Thanks for sticking with me on this one...i think it's because you never gave up that gave me hope!!!

Nice! that's the news of the day for me in these forum;)-

as it is working we can start fine-tuning it tomorrow! for bezel-adjustment and performance.

Good night!

Bezel worked OK but there is a problem, and based on the driver not sure its an easy one.

There is a magic invisible square in the bottom left of the centre screen. When I clicked master arm (that general area is all covered) it froze the screen. I had to Alt Tab to get the sim back working....how weird is that?
