I am selling my computer and have a beefier unit on order (main reason actually being A10), however I did not de-activate either A10 nor BS prior to uninstalling them.

I looked into how to de-activate them and apparently it needs to be installed to get a hardware number for de-activation.

Question is, can I simply reinstall the programs on my new computer and use another activation code? Or, do the programs needs to be de-activated from the first computer prior to re-activation on another?

If so, teach me how to do both. I'm far from what you would call computer literate.

Thanks,

Chris

You can just install on the new machine, no problem. The only ill effect from not having de-activated prior is that you'll use up another activation. Note however that the amount of activations is effectively infinite; you start with 8, but even should you use all of them you'll still get the last one back after 30 days. (And when using that one, you get it back again after 30 days.)

This applies to Black Shark 2 as well. Black Shark 1 does not have this "refill" feature.

If it is Black Shark 2 you have, I would suggest downloading and installing DCS World as well as those two modules, since those are the most current ones. You'll get the latest version of both and through both being in a single install you'll also save on hard drive space.

Does this mean that, after I used up my activations and deactivations (the seems to be a limit to them, too) for BS1, I have to buy a new copy of BS1 or the full version of BS2 to keep flying?

No, you would just enter a support ticket and be issued a new serial number.

Great. I appreciate the feedback.

But if that's all we need to do, what's the point of the deactivation code process?

Deactivation is something that allows you to "retain" the activation you just used.

Starting a support ticket takes time - usually you'll be assisted within two working days, but during periods of excessive load this time can increase. Keeping the activation(s) you have, but using the deactviation to maintain it when switching computers or making significant hardware changes or OS reinstalls ensures that you're not spending the activations in the first place and will never have to ask for help in the first place. ;)

Saving a activation and only spending one deactivation instead.

Please read the Quickstart manual in your Docs folder of your DCS install.

Everything is explained in it.
