I was lucky enough to visit Edwards AFB this past weekend for the Air Force Open House. Having been to the Miramar Naval Air Show for the past few years, I must say that I was highly impressed with the Air Force show. The only major complaint is the lack of dedicated aerobatic team(s). Miss the Blue Angels show of Miramar. But other than that, got to see the F-22 in flight and close up on the ground, an excellent (!) show by the Dutch F-16 team, which IMO blows away any USAF F-16 demo I've ever seen, great pyrotechnics, NASA's F-15 (with canards) and F-18 in flight, the F-16 Vista and delta-wing experiments close up on the ground, and other great attractions of all things flying. Oddly enough, most impressive was the security check, which included a quick pat down, sweep with a hand-held metal detector, and a look into your belongings. All under 5 minutes! Best organization I've ever seen.

Oh, and they were very cool (and quick!) about helping us jump-start the car when we realized the battery was totally dead (lights on...).

By the way, I've got neither an appropriate camera, nor any photographic talent. So these are just a few shots of the really cool stuff. Nothing to set as wallpaper. :) Many of these shots have more samples, so in case you're interested in seeing more, I can post them up as well.

Lastly, I took a few shots of various weapons (bombs, cruise missiles, etc.) in the hope that our 3'rd party modelers might find it useful. My access to these was limited by the ropes, so I could not snap them from all directions. I'll be uploading these shortly.

Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer.
