bflagg Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Good Morning.. When ever I used radar and the Aim9 to lock a target, the lock will remain reguardless if target is destroyed or not. Setup.. Play the quick F15 fly button. Turn on radar, turn on weapons, switch to aim9. Lock target with radar. wait to get in range.... fire. (splash one...) Turn left to face the approaching 17's... select 120.. enable tws.. lock a target in VSD. (or SST also.. not sure) It's 10nm out...so I get a "shoot" que.. The problem: the target designator is still locked on to the crashed or crashing IL-76 that you just shot down with the aim 9. Even using the ctrl+Tab (break lock) key doesn't work. Only turning on/off your radar will break the lock. then you have to reaquire....and now you can shoot ... but that is seconds lost.... Thanks, Brett

(I was heading out to work) This then is not a 120 failure (how can it even lock on when the prior destroyed object is outside of it's detection cone?).. there has to another problem elsewhere. Remember. the 120 is essentially slaved to the onboard system until it's released or beyond a certain point. Thanks, Brett

I don't get to use the 9's often, stuff usually drops out of the sky before it gets that close. :/ Sounds like there's a small bug with the radar code. bflagg Posted October 26, 2005 Author Posted October 26, 2005 I was able to reproduce it again, but family matters took precedent, before I could record it for you folks last night. It seems in this situation, when switching to bvr mode, the radar lock still remains, where as in the past, it would unlock when changing to a different radar mode. Track shows: Radar on: Aim9 select, MFD range set to 10nm. Lock IL76. - SHoot IL-76, Turn Left, enable BVR mode, enabled tws, MFD range set to 20nm. Lock target in MFD. Look at hud. TD is all the way to the left. I tried to bank to make it show me what it had but it didn't work. I shoot down the two 17's any way, I turn 180 deg (TD box is pulled to the left still) I shut off radar, then turn it back on, NOW everything works.... Pilotasso Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 Just wanted to add another thing...sometimes I get target box in HUD over thin air. Its pretty ramdom and its hard to reproduce. It hapens mostly online when I swich over 2 targets in TWS mode. I fire 1 AMRAAM at 1 target and then the square freezes in thin air, not showing the direction of the second one (neither will the first from that point on). The radar screen works fine the HUD just gets like that. Its pretty odd, I have reason to believe that jouystick background programing utilities sometimes causes unexpected problems, like sometimes I presss the joystick programed key to designate target and then it pops out a single chaff cartrige instead . This hapens often after I have pressed the shift stick button (joystick key doubler) and press another key leaving shift alone. Pretty odd. These bugs have been present from before 1.02 but target box on air is new since 1.1 Is it interference form the sticks key press timer? I have Thrustmaster afterburner II (yeah its crap, I know) .
