Hi guys, yes it's me asking or advice yet again, although you'll be glad to hear this isn't another pc parts question. ;) new build is well on its way with parts slowly getting delivered and the new system will be ready for flight in Oct. :)

This question is about Touchscreens for Helios, as some of you have seen I'm currently looking into finally sorting out some sort of home cockpit for myself. Looked at several solutions although almost all require building a quite a bit of space. I've been given permission to use the loft for the build which is great, however needs rather alot of prep work, so realistically the cockpit won't be built for a while yet.

However I stumbled across a post from Loz earlier today which showed off his Helios profile. It looks great and only uses one screen which got me thinking. I currently have room for one more screen on the desk, :) eureka they cry. A workable cockpit in the space I have at the mo

Then I looked at what touchscreens are out there, damn theres quite a few. So as I know quite a few of you are running Helios and touchscreens, which ones would I be best at looking at. Figure I can stretch to a budget of around £300 tops. Now I've found this one from Acer, the T231H which is well within budget, although most of the reviews are in languages I don't read.

Does anyone use this and is it any good, or should I be looking elsewhere.

Hope I've not bored you all too much, or frustrated you all with all my silly questions over the last few months. I promise they will end soon. ;) fingers crossed someone will be kind enough to answer me here.

Thanks all

I don't have any experience with the Acer, but I do fly with an HP Compaq L2105tm touchscreen. Its 21.5 inches, 1080p, and plug-and-play with Win7. I've been using it for a year now with no problems. Couldn't be happier with it.

I use the 23" acer for my right (and switchable to left-) panel.

(see cockpit link in signature)

So far very good and reliable.

You wanna put the bottom of the screen to the outside since the optimal angle for monitors is in general made to view slightly from above and in NVIDIA settings I toned down the gamma for it a bit to compensate for the lifted brightness of my personal viewing angle...but that depends on the angle you build it in.

The photos don't represent the look very well since the angle is different when you sit and the phone camera doesn't have a good exposure either.

Front panel is a 24" ELO touch...can't recommend that one.

Its very heavy and deep.

I have the T231H as my center console and it is awesome love the picture quality and the touch works as designed. I also have 2 Acer T230H's as my side touch screens and the touch part is awesome but the picture is not as nice as the T231H.

Little video of the setup

Cheers guys, I'm glad it sounds like the Acer T231 is a good screen, as it's also the cheapest I can find. ;)

Adding it to my build and should be running Helios and touch within a few months. :)

While not the full cockpit I dream off, it's a great start, and should add another dimension I hope.

Cheers Weld, yep must say I'm looking forward to it, was using Icontrol before I came over to DCS World and have to agree there's something about clicking a button yourself rather than a mouse, even if it is a touchscreen.

Granted my setups going to be nowhere near your amazing cockpit, 3 x 55" for main view must be stunning. But it's the right step in the correct direction and of course, so long as we can get the correct instruments in Helios, it should be fairly good for multi aircraft.

These last 4 weeks before i can complete the build are going to be murder. ;)
