Graphics settings and Visibility distance

I recently changed the visibility setting in the graphics options from HIGH to MEDIUM., because of FPS problems.

 

Does anyone know how this affects the min distance that it is possible to see an air target? (I use cockpit zoom) I fly on 1960 resolution. It seems very difficult, I am not sure if the visibility setting make a difference here or not, can anyone clarify?

this setting doesn't affect visual distance of aircraft or ground vehicles, only visual distance of buildings/cities and terrain textures
