McRoll Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Greetings, this is my first post in the forums for this wonderful sim and I would like to have some tips for optimal usage of my new HOTAS with Flaming Cliffs 2. I have started to make a profile yesterday and have the basic stuff down but I cannot figure out how to use the 3 different modes the stick offers- I have mapped the keys to various functions in the first mode but want an alternative use in mode 2. For example, I want to use one coolie hat for aircraft trim in mode 1 and for target designator when I switch to mode 2- is this possible? When I try to program the keys in mode 2, the software changes the functions in mode 1 automatically. Also, I would like to know how to make best use of the precision slider and the 2 rotary axes on the throttle. In IL 2 CLOD for example, I use them for prop pitch and mixture/radiator but in Flaming Cliffs that is not needed as most functions don't need axes it seems- how do you use them?
Settingz85 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) Yes, it is possible to map keys in 3 different modes. Check out the view option, so u can see the whole table with all 3 modes incl. 3 additional modes in case u want to use pinkie. Pinkie switch allows u to map 6 keys for one single button. Look out for the second line of the table in the editor. This is for a switchback option(dont know whats the use of it). If u havent change this switchback option, it will automaticaly change all modes to the one which is mentioned in this cell line. I use slider for zoom and rotarys for Speedbrake and Flaps. In Case u want to use rotarys for the same function as i do, u need to set them up via SST. -edit: just reread your post and realized that you use your stick for FC2. So in that case it might be possible that Airbrake or Flaps work as an axis, not as a button. As an axis u dont need to set them up via SST. Sorry for my bad bad english skills. Its been a while since i left school. Hope this helps. Edited August 6, 2012 by Settingz85
Frostie Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Possibly the best thing you can do with the thumb rotary is to set it as radar ELEVATION, you can do this by setting its axis in FC2. FLANKERATOR Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Also, I would like to know how to make best use of the precision slider and the 2 rotary axes on the throttle. As Frostie stated, best use of thumb rotary is radar antenna elevation especially for F-15C. It would be a different story for Russian Fighters stages-based radar. In that case, I would recommend 8-way hat switches. Precision slider could be used for MFD scale.
