Majesco Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 I'm thinking to a touchscreen display for playing DCS A-10C, iPad is one of my choice :) But I have nothing to do with iPad, just for monitor setup only should i buy an old/ cheap 2nd iPad 1 without 3G or Wifi for A-10C ?
neroroxxx Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 While using an iPad as a monitor is possible (with air display,) the lag and issues with that set up make it useless, so you really can't look at that as something doable. There are other options like icontrol dcs which is the one I use which work great and will probably work on the original iPad, i have an iPad 2 and the new iPad and it doesn't seem to make a huge difference. 3G doesn't make a difference. Majesco Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 (edited) I'll use icontrol DCS software with iPad, of course my main purpose for getting 2nd iPad 1 (without 3G or Wifi functions) is cheap price, extend (touch) display only, no any other purposes because i don't like using Apple devices /neroroxxx: you extend desktop to iPad 2 over USB port or DVI/ HDMI port on HD6970 ? Revelation Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 I use iControl DCS on my 1st gen iPad. I do, however, use it via wifi and not through USB. Any reason why you won't let iControl DCS connect to your computer over wifi? Win 10 Pro 64Bit | 49" UWHD AOC 5120x1440p | AMD 5900x | 64Gb DDR4 | RX 6900XT
neroroxxx Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 I never heard of a way to extend the desktop to the iPad with usb, only using air display, if your wifi is unstable then invest on a new router as well that's really the only way, unless there is a way then please tell me. Majesco Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 thanks, could you show me some pictures of your desktop and iPad (and how to connect it to computer) ? :D
Nopileus Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 I use the free version of iControl DCS on a 1st gen 16gb wifi iPad, you certainly need good and stable wifi connection and even then sometimes a single mfd might freeze (might just be in the free version, fixes itself when changing pages) Also the MFDs are not really sharp on the iPad (exported at 300x300, rendered at 512), i use it more for the buttons than for the displays. It is probably better to get the cougar MFDs and, if you really need it, some small screens for them. PS: there is no way to connect it without Wifi
boarder2 Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 iPads aren't capable of networking over USB. The only way to get data from another source is via WiFi or 3G. Obviously 3G will be significantly slower and much higher latency than WiFi. Your best option would be to get a new wireless router if yours is unstable. iControl DCS/DCS Virtual Cockpit - Full featured iPad Cockpit - Now with Android support!
