Wackforce Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Hi, I don't see too much of the topic about aircraft with more than one seat. I play Rise of Flight sometimes and there it's possible to team up in multiplayer, up to four players in one aircraft, but mostly two seats (pilot, gunner). I can't really put my idea away about how it would be in DCS, and one of my favorites always comes to mind: The legendary Mi-24 Hind. IMO it's the coolest looking and most awesome combat helicopter ever. I don't know what, but something exciting about it is certainly there. Multiplayer in a Hind with pilot and gunner sound tempting. I guess it's a silly idea, but I just want to let the air out and sorry if this has been discussed before. Thanks :)
Razor5-1 Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Multicrew is a hotly debated topic. The main issue that always comes up is "AI" implementation for people that don't fly multi-player.
Wackforce Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 I can understand that. It's a few discussions about AI in RoF as well, it's for sure not perfect and the AIs actions not always make the skipper too happy, but it's an ongoing WIP. I guess it's a time consuming deal to make something like that work good enough. A small amount of hope is flowing though.
Razor5-1 Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Well all the AI in ROF has to do is shoot back really, imagine trying to implement the gunner for a helicopter to employ the gun and to fly the aircraft if the player choose to be the gunner! I mean to a high standard not just in straight lines.
Wackforce Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 Yes, much more complex than RoF, and still the RoF AI is not perfect. Then I can imagine how much more work it have to be in DCS.
Jona33 Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 And the DCS AI is hardly great at the moment. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
Wackforce Posted August 19, 2012 Author Posted August 19, 2012 (edited) Bad AI or not, as a multiplayer gunship the idea sounds very tempting in my opinion. Are the issue non existing AI or just bad AI? RoF AI is not too good, but now there is commands. The AI gunner don't do anything unless I give orders to do so. Same as to how it is executed, for example shooting at air or ground targets and at short, medium or long range. Same goes to wingmen in singleplayer. Not too good but good enough. Are the implementation of AI in coorparation with human player different than all the other AI flying around or operaiting on the ground? The wingmen AI in DCS I haven't figured out completely yet. Aside from them being a bit more suicidal than I would like them to, it seems to work. (please shoot if I'm missing something) As for the Hind, I was silly enough to buy TOH with the Hind DLC. I was not too impressed. If the Hind wasn't there I wouldn't bought TOH. Thanks for replying guys. Good to know others opinion. Edited August 19, 2012 by Wackforce
